Rattus, I love Midsomer Murders. I've been renting them one by one from Netflix and haven't been disappointed by any of them.

I love them too - obviously . The reason I feel comfortable investing so much money into the eventual purchase of the entire series is that they are convoluted enough that I will have no recollection whatsoever of whodunnit once I start back at the beginning again, but not so convoluted as to be confusing. The perfect English murder mystery.

Why Shawshank? It plays on some tv channel daily around here.

We gave that to my husband a couple years ago as its his favorite. He has yet to watch the DVD, but always manages to find it on tv and watch it.
Bill Maher, comedian and political talk show host recently did a joke about it calling it the Shawshank Syndrome where people buy DVD's but then never watch them and watch them on tv instead. I thought I would fall out of my chair laughing. Mr. Rosie didn't think it was all that funny.

Loved Heart of Gold when I saw it recently.

Tell me more about the Midsomer Murders. I love English mysteries.

Surprisingly, it doesn't air that often around here, but when it does, the end time is always past 10:00, which means I have never seen the end. And I liked it well enough to actually want to see the end. Plus, no commercials? Bonus.

They're based on the books by Caroline Graham. They're fairly typical thematically, in a old-school English mystery sort of way. I love them, but I'm a big fan of the old books, so take that as you will.
