Tom Selleck was originally cast as Indiana Jones for the first "Raiders of the Lost Ark" movie, but he couldn't get out of his committment to "Magnum P.I.". Nick Nolte was offered the part of Indiana Jones, but he turned it down.

The drawings in Jack's sketchbook in Titanic, including the nude of Rose, were all actually drawn by James Cameron, the Director.

The scene in Taxi Driver where DeNiro is talking to himself in the mirror was completely improvised.
Iím haunted a little this evening by feelings that have no vocabulary and events that should be explained in dimensions of lint rather than words.

    Great thread Paulie!
Don't know if it's been posted anywhere else, but in the LOTR movies Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) took his role so seriously that he refused to live in a nice hotel and stayed in some cabin (or was it a tent??), not washing himself (much, I would presume) to get that look and feeling of being travelling month upon months as he is in the movies.

Lobeck, thank god Selleck and Nolte didn't take the role as Indiana Jones - can't imagine anyone more suited for it than Harrison Ford!!!

The scene in the Fellowship of the Ring where Gandalf hits his head on a ceiling beam in Bilbo's home was an accident. Ian McKellen just improvised afterward & the shot stayed in the movie.

    Speaking of Pulp Fiction:

Sam Jackson's wallet in PF is inscribed with "BMF", which stands for Bad MotherF'er. Ever since he made that movie, something of his in each movie he's done has been similarly inscribed. For example, his light saber in Star Wars has BMF inscribed on the handle.

Oh, and the choice of purple was entirely his doing. He asked if his light could be purple, and they said "sure".

    This is a great thread.

In The Breakfast Club, Judd Nelson was improvising the joke he was telling as he crawled through the ceiling.
He never had an ending for it planned and there are actually sites devoted to speculation about the ending of the joke.

The inspiration for Keyser Soze's character in "The Usual Suspects" was based on real-life murdered John List, who murdered his family and disappeared for 17 years.
