And Pacific Rim was fun! Not only does it have the great Idris Elba, but it took my back to my childhood as an ode to Godzilla.

The Frozen Ground - A "based on real events" movie about a serial killer in Anchorage, Alaska in the 70s and early 80s. This stuff all happened when I was a child and I don't remember hearing about any of it at the time. I was about 8 years old when the guy was finally arrested. I read a book about what happened when I was in my early-20s. I had a surreal moment at one point when I glanced down to get a bite of dinner and when I looked back up they were in a shot with two characters talking in a roller rink and the wall was painted as a huge mountain landscape mural. I grew up skating at that rink!!

This movie didn't get much attention in spite of having some fairly big names (Nicolas Cage, John Cusak, Vanessa Hudgens), so it may not have even been on my radar if I wasn't from Anchorage. Overall the movie wasn't great. I thought the pacing left something to be desired, but maybe part of the issue was that I knew how the story was going to play out.

Where are you renting this? Netflix won't have it until the 11th of Nov.

It is available to rent on Amazon Instant Video and OnDemand on our cable. It might also be available at local rental stores even though they are few and far between these days!

I liked it too, though I'm usually not a monster-movie fan (I prefer the human - or human-like - ones like Michael Myers). Absolute favourite character was Ron Perlman's Hannibal Chau, as I had a hard time separating Charlie Hunnam's Raleigh from his SOA character - maybe if he'd been able to drop his American accent. Also liked the jo staff battle sequences. I do wish we'd gone to see it on the big screen, though.
