Ruins - meh, I could have done without it. It was entertaining but didn't grab me as scary.
American Gangster- Great film! I will never get tired of seeing Denzel on my screen, ever!

Rented Hellboy last night. Enjoyed the hell out of it. Looking forward to Hellboy II this weekend.
It was really entertaining huh Uncle David! My son and I were completely engrossed in the whole movie.Quote:

Me too, me too, me too! Very, very excited. I loved Hellboy so much that I bought not only it, but the two companion animated films, neither of which I have seen yet.Quote:

While it was made before I was born, I love the movie as it evokes such great childhood memories for me.
Great actors in it as well: Jimmy Stewart, Charlton Heston. Cameos by Bing Crosby and Bob Hope due to Dorothy Lamour being in it. Even the head of the Ringling Circus at the time: John Ringing North plays himself in the movie.
And Emmet Kelly is in it as well.
If you haven't seen it, it's a classic.
Watched The Ruins last night. Two young couples on vacation, hungry plants, bad things happen at an ancient Mayan temple. Really, not very scary at all, but there were two or three gore-filled scenes. I'd heard great things about the original novel by Scott Smith...I should have picked up a copy of that instead. I'm glad I didn't bother going to the theater for this one like I'd wanted when it came out. :down

Not a rental, but went to see this today. The effects were fabulous, as was the acting, but the writing was on the weak side. The very weak side. Certainly not as impressive as the first film. Still and all, a reasonably decent summer timewaster.Quote:

It had a few mildly funny moments, but overall wasn't great. It was far longer than necessary - I felt myself wanting it to hurry up and end. I was disappointed because I really like Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. :(
