Re: Last Movies You Have Rented

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Beautifully filmed and Cate Blanchet is still fantastic as Elizabeth. It was good, but the story was not as captivating as the first movie.

30 Days of Night - I don't watch too many horror movies these days, but I thought this movie was great! I liked that the vampires were "animalistic", I thought it was quite different from the "romanticized" version of vampires we get in most movies (where they are bad guys, but they are hot!) I actually got a little teary at the end, which is always a good sign that I connected with the characters and story. My picky gripe: I was born and raised in Alaska and I have been fortunate enough to travel north of the Arctic Circle a couple of times and I have a hard time believing that you could travel to a town that remote and that far north without seeing a significant Native Alaskan population. This town in the movie seemed to be all caucasian, with one hispanic thown into the mix.

American Gangster - Really a great movie. Interesting, suspenseful, and wonderful acting!!

Ghost Son: This was a rather eerie movie. I can't even begin to explain what it was about. But I rather enjoyed it. Even though the only person I recognized was the guy playing the husband. He was the same guy who played Evie's brother (?) in The Mummy with Brendan Frasier.
I Am Legend: I found myself rather disappointed with this. I was hoping it would live up to all the hype and IMO, it really didn't. Definitely not one of Will Smith's best works (again, IMO). Next up to watch: Bee Movie
Hurley: (holding up a Jesus statue) I don't know. I thought there might be a prowler or something.
Mrs. Reyes: (grabbing the statue) Jesus Christ is not a weapon! - LOST "There's No Place Like Home Pt. 1

I just watched this one tonight. I wish I could disagree with you, unfortunately I can't. I do think Will Smith's acting was great, but I thought the movie was just okay. I'm putting the rest of my opinion in spoiler tags so I don't color anyone's opinion with details...

I expected sad, but it really surpassed my expectations on that front. I think the thing that bugged me the most was that the mutated/infected humans looked overly - make that completely - computer animated. I just don't find computer generated bad guys as scary as great actors playing the bad guys. It was way too reminiscent of iRobot -- Will Smith running from hoards of computer generated bad guys.

ETA - In the previews they were advertising a "sequel" to The Lost Boys which will apparently feature Corey Feldman. This seems like possibly the worst idea for a sequel EVER. It would have a hard time living up to the original if they had put effort and good acting into it, and from the previews they put neither of those in the mix!

Bee Movie: This was great! I loved it. Very cute and very very funny. 3 Seinfeld actors provided voices for this film. There was Jerry Seinfeld as the lead bee but Patrick Warburton and Michael Richards were also featured. There were some very funny lines in this. Definitely a great movie for the whole family! So out of the 3 I rented this week, once again, we are 2 for 3. Here they are again:
I Am Legend: I wasn't crazy about this. Not one of Will Smith's finest movies. Kind of boring. I give this movie 2 *'s out of a possible 5
Ghost Son: I rather enjoyed this. Very eerie and full of interesting stuff even though I only knew 1 actor. I give this movie 4 *'s out of a possible 5 (just because there wasn't enough recognizable actors in it)
Bee Movie: Excellent Excellent Excellent! I laughed the whole time. Great pick! I give this movie 5 HUGE *'s! Dreamworks has done it again!
Hurley: (holding up a Jesus statue) I don't know. I thought there might be a prowler or something.
Mrs. Reyes: (grabbing the statue) Jesus Christ is not a weapon! - LOST "There's No Place Like Home Pt. 1

Heh, it must really be good to write about it twice. I definitely want to see it. Is it more a family movie or one that anyone can watch alone?

Anyone can watch it alone but it is a great family movie.

Thanks! I tend to watch a lot of movies when I work out at home because I'm either standing/sitting and it gets really dull listening to the same music over and over. When I'm at school and running on the treadmill it's harder to watch movies.

So I catch up on all FORT recommendations when I get home!

The Mist: I thought it was okay. It wasn't anything like I expected. I didn't know exactly what it was going to be like, so I was surprised the entire time. The end was really disturbing. His realizing that he'd been driving
away from help the entire time and that he'd killed his family
    really made me mad!

Awake: Terrible movie. Jessica Alba is a terrible actress. I found the overall movie to be incredibly disturbing because the premise is plausible in so much as it could plausibly happen to me. That made me squirm and FF through some parts.

I didn't think Awake was terrible but I also didn't think it was great.
I just watched Less Than Zero for the first time ever on ON Demand. I absolutely loved it. I was pleasantly surprised by Robert Downey, Jr's role. What a great job and what a powerful movie. I found myself yelling at Andrew McCarthy and Jaimie Gertz for not insisting that RDJ's character go to a hospital. It was a very very good movie. I'm glad I finally made myself watch it.
    Canadian, FF?
