Last Movies You Have Rented

The kids and I rented Night at the Museum the other day, and have absolutely loved it. As long as you approach it knowing it's just meant to be silly, the clunky plot devices aren't a problem. I have a love/hate relationship with Ben Stiller Zoolander is one of my all-time favorite comedies, but so much of his stuff is pretty moronic… Museum was great. There were several times I laughed out loud, and that's a rarity for me for a movie.

The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe: So utterly late in seeing this one, but I really enjoyed it. I had to reread the novel for my Children's Lit class last year so I really noticed the differences between the novel and the movie. But I quite enjoyed it even if it was a tad long.

Little Children - one of the best I've seen in a long time, and the ending was truly shocking

The Painted Veil - a little slow, but beautiful cinematography of the Chinese countryside. I should have seen this on the big screen

Volver - funny, touching and great acting

The Last King of Scotland - not great, but Forest Whittaker deserved his Oscar. Note to self - don't have an affair with a dictator's wife.

Oh wow, this is the movie based on the Tom Perrotta novel, right? The book was amazing - didn't realize that there even was a movie. I'll have to check it out.

This is a little OT, but speaking of good books made into movies - I hated, hated, HATED the movie Running With Scissors. If you've read the book - which is excellent - stay the hell away from this movie. I couldn't make it through the whole thing...deadly dull and strays way too far from the book.

The Pacifier: A total corny kids movie, but I thought it was really cute. I've always liked Vin. I didn't think I'd like it, but I did.

If you've read the book - which is excellent - stay the hell away from this movie. I couldn't make it through the whole thing...deadly dull and strays way too far from the book.

Really, it got really good reviews, even an Oscar nod, no? I plan on watching it eventually because I'm curious about seeing the book in action, although I was not crazy about the book (one of the rare ones). I did love his follow up Dry, though.

Two night ago, I watched Dreamgirls with hubby. I loved the story and the acting, but there is way too much singing. Like my husband said, it took away from the story. Because the acting is so good, you know how the character feels, but then she/he's got to verbalize it be singing. If they cut the songs by half, it would have been much better, in my opinion. Still, Jennifer deserved her Grammy and Oscar. She was excellent.

I am currently making my way through the first season of the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew mysteries from 1976-1977. I forgot how much fun these shows were! I am loving the trip down memory lane. (I was 3 the first time around )

Argh! The last two eps were damaged from Blockbuster and I didn't get to see them! So I had to buy it from Amazon .
Gosh darnit! They had James Shigeta guest starring, so I couldn't help myself!

Yes Jane, Little Children is based on the Perotta novel, and I was in a theatre seeing something else when Running With Scissors was playing and people were walking out of the theatre because it was so bad. I was going to buy the book, but then I read an article in a magazine with some of the family members who allege that most of the book is fiction, and a lawsuit is pending.

Marie Antoinette - It's beautiful to look at, everyone looks like a birthday cake, and Kirsten Dunst has the right Germanic look but as soon as she talks it sounds like I'm overhearing a valley girl at the mall. MTV goes to Versaille. And Sofia totally skips The Affair of The Necklace ( a really good underated movie with Hilary Swank that I loved) that totally damaged Marie's reputation, far mor so than the lie that she said 'let them eat cake'. I kept looking for Marrianne Faithful and as the credits rolled was surprised that she played Marie's mother, and she does an amazing acting job.

Bobby- It has some great moments, and I haven't seen Sharon Stone this good since she played Ginger in Casino, and Demi has a very touching moment, but not much happens. The clothes and hair are a hoot, kind of the first Star Trek. Freddy from Six Feet Under is really good too.
