Last night, the Snowflake Family got into a Christmas mood with Elf and hot cocoa. :santagrin Funny and heartwarming. I'm a big Will Ferrell fan, so I loved it.

We also got Spiderman 2. Excellent; better than the first, I hate to admit. Love that it was co-written by Michael Chabon (Adventures of Kavalier & Clay), and that is probably what elevated it above most Hollywood superhero fare. Alfred Molina is an excellent villain (he's been one of my favorite character actors since Prick Up Your Ears), and I love that "Doc Ock" had layers as opposed to simply being born bad. Oh, and of course, as long-time Raimi fan, seeing Bruce Campbell made my skip a beat. I am such a nerd!

I can't believe you actually liked The Girl Next Door, Snowflakegirl. I bailed after about 20 minutes of it. (Okay, that's a lie. I watched the whole darn thing. Only because Cuthbert is hot.) It tries to be Risky Business only to end up being a smarter version of Road Trip. And don't tell me you liked Road Trip.

Open Range, ***
Duvall is da man.

The Magdalene Sisters, ***
Not only a commentary on the Catholic church's shady recent past. But also religion used as a way of enforcing authority.

Indeed he is. I loved this film.

I agree on this one, too. It was hard to watch, but so well done.

Maria Full of Grace, ****
A little more than your immigrant-story-of-the-week. The issue of drug-smuggling is thrown into the mix. It starts off slow but gets going in the second half. Probably the best drama I've seen released this year.

Fog of War, ****
US history told from the point of view of former Secretary of Defense, Robert McNamara. A really captivating doc. If you hated Bush after watching Fahrenheit 9/11, you'll hate him even more after seeing this.

The Missing, **
Not a great western but fair and interesting to look at. At the least, it's mildly entertaining in the turn-off-the-brain-and-eat-popcorn kind of way.

Runaway Jury, ***
A Grisham courtroom drama that was better than I expected. Hackman. Hoffman. Cusack. Can't go wrong.

Cheaper by the Dozen, **
I suppose there's a positive message about family somewhere here. But really, what I got out of it was: Hillary Duff is a total babe, and the dude from Smallville is a babe.

I've never even seen Road Trip, happyblue, but in my defense, I can't spend every night in a smoking jacket with a pipe deconstructing Un Chien Andalou and Last Year at Marienbad. So I like a bit of fluff every now and again, it cleanses the palate.

I'll give you three reasons why I liked The Girl Next Door: Elisha Cuthbert, as even you admit, is smokin' hot; that Emile guy is cute and turns in a fairly nuanced performance (he was good in The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys too); finally, I was pleasantly surprised with the writing & direction of the film, which could have been much broader comedically, but instead opted for a more realistic tone, and had some adroit foreshadowing and good payoffs. Okay, let me make it four: PORN IS FUNNY.

Anyway, today the Snowflake household watched The Bourne Supremacy. It was a fun suspense thriller, with some breathless action sequences and a super-fast pace that flies right by. Don't think too hard on the plot though, it'll only get in the way. Enjoy it for what it is. That is all.

Last weekend:

CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN: Even though I love Steve Martin, I think this movie was more or less annoying. Kinda disappointing.

50 FIRST DATES: Loved it! sweet story, and hubby and I are Adam sandler fans. Drew Barrymore was really pretty in this, unlikely story but enjoyable nonetheless.

CONFESSIONS OF A TEENAGE DRAMA QUEEN: The worst of the three Lindsey Lohan movies I've seen recently. I loved MEAN GIRLS AND FREAKY FRIDAY. Skip this one though.

I haven't seen this one and I won't because I really hate remakes of classic movies, especially ones that are as good as the original of this.

This remake is basically a disappointment...I loved the original Cheaper By The Dozen.....the remake doesn't even come close.
