Well, I certainly hope ROTK wins awards outside of the "technical" categories. In fact, if it doesn't win Best Picture or Best Director, then LOTR was ROBBED. ROBBED I tell ya. It was horrible enough with Chicago last year.

cold mountain may yet steal best picture, but there is no way in hell peter jackson doesn't win best director this year. he is as much of a lock for best director as you can get.

I have to say I would be very surprised if Benencio Del Toro does not get a nod for his role in 21 grams. He was amazing in that...

Um, it's probably not "just because Nicole Kidman is in it". :rolleyes It has two other Oscar nominees in it (Jude Law, Reneé Zellwegger), is directed by an Oscar-winning director (Anthony Minghella), and is a great story. That might have something to do with it, too...

Thank you lobeck, I wanted to say the same thing. I saw Cold Mountain and thought it was really good. Some of the scenery was just breathtaking. Another thing to remember - just because someone gets alot of attention in the media, it doesn't mean that everything they do is gold, but it certainly doesn't mean everything they do is crap, either.

Haej, I am happy for you that you love LOTR so much, but believe it or not, some people, like myself, couldn't even sit through more then half an hour of the first movie without dying of boredom. Different strokes for different folks...
