I personally think Tilda Swinton was a good choice. I originally thought about Nicole Kidman but I am happy they arent just going with an actress who is a big name. I think that Brian Cox was cast as Aslan, not Rupert Everett. I'm going to do some research to confirm that, but I'm pretty sure. Has anyone else heard that Brian Cox was cast?

Out of all the obscure names in the world, they had to chose Tilda? They should've used Caroline Winberg or some supermodel like that. Scary tall and beautiful - sounds like a supermodel.

Tilda, besides being other worldly, tall and ethereal is also one of the best actresses working today. She gave a tour de force performance in The Deep End, about a mother covering up a murder her gay son committed, she received an Oscar nomination for that. I don't know of any current super models who have the acting chops she has, and Tilda was at one time a very well known model herself.

Lotuslander, I couldn't have said it better myself! I don't think Tilda is that random. I think they wanted to choose a good actress, not just a model who looks the part. I think Tilda is going to be really great for this role!

I just found this interview with Tilda about the movie: http://www.moviehole.net/news/5012.html

It sounds like she is really excited about this role! I think this could really become her "break out" role.

They just released these collectible figurine pics. They might be a little on the pricey side but they look really cool, good sign for the movie...

I want this to succeed so badly so that they will make the rest...these books were the best, hoping it follows suit with the lord of the rings movies. Great books now great movies

Here's another Narnia geek who can't wait for this one to come out! I adored the books when I was a kid and watched the BBC adaption over and over. Tilda Swinton is a wonderful actress; I'm sure she'll be a wonderful Jadis although I have to admit I, too, had my heart set on Nicole Kidman or someone with that icy, piercing beauty.

Will there be several movies from the chronicles, LOTR style, or just "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe"?

I believe others being made depends on the success of this one.
