What is your favorite movie that DIDN'T win Best Picture Oscar.

Remember, these are films that DIDN'T win best picture.

Mine is "Seven Days in May" 1964, starred Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, Eva Gardner and Frederic March (as the President). The screenplay was written by Rod Serling.

The movie was about a planned coup d'etat by the Joint Chiefs of Staff, because of thier opposition to an arms treaty that had just been signed by the President. Extremely tense and well written, with excellent acting by supurb cast.

I've never seen that, but if it's going to be on Turner Movie Classic or AMC, I just might see it.

They show it on TMC every once in a while.....it was on the "30 Days of Oscar" last year, since it was nominated for Best Pitcure but didn't win.

Mine is a foreign film: Wings of desire. German Director Wim Wenders. Beautiful, deep. wonderful. A little long though, all about what it means to love, and be loved. the american remake was trash.

the alternate is: 'the cook, the thief, his wife, her lover' Everything you need to know about passion and appetite is there.

Apocalypse Now (1979) which everyone has at least heard of losing to Kramer vs. Kramer. And High Noon (1952) losing to The Greatest Show On Earth. I couldn't believe it when I found out High Noon didn't win an award. Sometimes I wonder what planet the Oscar voters come from.

I think most will agree with me when I say that Martin Scorsese must be the single most thwarted director-genius in the history of the Oscars. "Raging Bull", "Goodfellas", "Taxi Driver", "Casino" and more recently "Gangs of New York"...*sigh*

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.

A loss to a a pretty good line-up of Year of the Quirky/Innovative contenders in '94, but continually ranked 2nd in the Top 250 by members of the imdb.

Can't we just look at the Favorite Movies thread and cross out every entry that actually won Best Picture?

I noticed something called How Green Was My Valley beat Citizen Kane.

Actually How Green was my Valley is an excellent flick. It was also the debut of Roddy McDowell.
