Marcie - Season 5

Marcie

Age:
31

Occupation:
Stay-at-home Mom

Hometown:
Corona, CA

Education:
High School Graduate, West High, Torrance, CA

Marcie got pregnant in high school and married her high school sweetheart. She is a devoted wife and mother with three sons. Marcie is married to a police officer. By devoting her entire life to raising her family, Marcie has missed out on the opportunity to do something just for herself. But Marcie believes that being a stay-at-home mom is the most important job that anyone can have. Stay-at-home moms are not people that can't do anything else, they just choose to raise their families rather than pursue a career. Playing this game will be her big adventure and an opportunity to prove she is more than "just a mom." She feels that others will underestimate her and she will use that to her advantage. Spanish is her first language and she speaks it fluently.

Many (most?) stay-at-home-mom says this & it's really annoying. It always comes across as if mothers who work always have a choice about it. Many don't. Most have to work just to make ends meet. And she was also lucky enough that the guy who knocked her up in high school married her & that it worked out. A lot of girls who get pregnant in high school aren't so lucky & are single moms.

Re: Marcie - Season 5

Having done both (SAHM and working mom) I would say that choosing to stay home with your kids is a very difficult decision. I HAD to make money to help make ends meet, so I got creative. I sold things on Ebay, I traded childcare, so I could work part time, I did freelance work, I sold Pampered Chef... Just because you are a stay at home mom doesn't mean you don't do work outside the home and don't contribute financially. Also, we chose for me to stay home because it was MORE expense for child care than for me to stay home (we lived in Seattle where fulltime childcare was $900-$1100 a month). Anyway, I think that if you get creative, most people can find a way to be a stay at home mom if that is their priority.

it's the way that she said it (not her choice to stay at home) I think that bothered the other poster.

I don't think either (SAHM or working mom) is an easy road to hoe. There are challenges, frustrations, guilt, and judgement from tons of strangers and even family and friends no matter what a woman chooses. So stupid and pointless for people to keep trying to convince others that there is on "right way" to parent.

it reminds me of those message board where people post vehemntly all day about whether they're better mothers than other people. Most of that comes off to me as defending her own choice because she's feeling defensive. There is no evidence that anyone said it wasn't a decent choice, and yet, here Marcie is in a one paragraph introduction that could cover anything in her whole life, and she's preaching about her superiority over a ton of other mothers. Lovely. Why don't you tell me something interesting about yourself, your rock collection, your love of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, anything other than you're defensive about being a SAHM.

That's exactly what bothered me. She came across as very condescending towards women who aren't SAHMs. I think it's great if someone is able to stay home with their kids, but not all women have a choice about it.

There is nothing else about her. Her job is so important that she doesn't want to minimize it by having "interesting" aspects to her life. She does speak spanish. Of course spoke it before she had her accident. Oops, I mean before she started her career.

If I hadn't read her bio, I would have been sorry to see her go. But since I did, I wasn't sorry at all.

Buh-bye!

If Marcie truly:

Quote:
believes that being a stay-at-home mom is the most important job that anyone can have.
Then why does she feel the need:

Quote:
to prove she is more than "just a mom."
Unless the "most important job that anyone can have" rhetoric is being used to cover a deep feeling of inadequacy. I know! Let's ask Mister Owl. 1-2-3- crunch. The world may never know.

Re: Marcie - Season 5

In case anyone is interested, about 10 days after getting the boot from the Mole, Marcie and a friend lived it up in Vegas for a wild weekend, I guess to assuage her grief from missing out on the "adventure of a lifetime".

Here she is with WallyMan in front of some casino. Notice the date 4/18/2008.

And don't worry, she has plenty of down time with trips to Lake Havasu City with all her very attractive friends (girls and guys.)

Interestingly, in all the pictures I've seen of Marcie on her friend's MySpace pages, I've yet to see any of her with children.
