    Yes, he is shy in real life. I met him at a Warner Bros. party once and I found his shyness to be very endearing.

    I think he was the best competitor. By the way, a while ago he was on a tv show called "Odd Man Out". I think it was on the WB. That was even before Dinotopia, so it was a while ago. But it was a very short lived show.
