    Re: MasterChef

Using recipes or not, Whitney has proven to be a bit of a phenom. She's also fallen short on a few challenges, which shows her inexperience, but if you take her basic talent and give her a few years? She'll be fantastic.

I was sad Mike left, but totally understood it based on the fact that he gets flustered and panicky. If he had to leave, I was glad one of his opposites, an ego like Sharone, left shortly after. I was glad, but shocked. lol

Of the ones left, I'm hoping it comes down to Whitney and David. I love the care David takes when he is cooking and his performance for the critics was really impressive. He hasn't shone much (he did get credit for a group win), but I think not winning much has been good for his humility.
Lee is great, but his ego is hard to take.
Chatal, I think she's the least favourite to win.

I'd love to see a Whitney-David finale. David's win was impressive -- 11.5 out of 12 stars -- even an Iron Chef might not have scored a perfect 12. I just hope that these two don't end up against each other in a pressure challenge or that they don't get eliminated on a non-cooking challenge.

    Re: MasterChef

Whitney just acts as if she doesn't know some very basic things about food. For example, she didn't know that the judges would frown upon canned tomatoes. How could anybody who knows anything about cooking not know that is a big no no. The whole theme was FRESH food, so fresh that they had to catch the fish themselves. So then to put canned sauce on it sounds so bizarre. She also looks so stiff while cooking. I wish she could appear a little more in control.

I don't really have a favorite. I've just been watching and getting a big kick out of Gordon Ramsey. That judge to the far left is a much bigger jerk than he is. LOL

The judges do seem to fall into roles. The restaurant guy is a bit hard to take.

I'm so the only one that likes the guy who makes the Italian food. I love him.

I'm glad that Sharone is gone. It got pretty old hearing him refer to himself as a chef. The entire I'm sitting here thinking "um no you're a cook on a game show... chef you are not." But that is my personal bias after knowing a couple people who have worked extremely hard to get the professional title of chef. You don't just pop on a game show and become a chef. I think Sharone's ego will get in his way if he worked in a real restaurant under chefs and sous chefs .

Re: the recipes, It's interesting becuase I would think they would have to give them a basic recipe for the baked items. I bake, but I wouldn't be able to remember the right amount of flour, eggs, sugar, etc especially for a smaller amount than I usually make.
But, they must not tell them everything otherwise why would Slim not know to put the crab in the boiling water first.

Sharone, just made me laugh when Gordo basically told him to not talk off the judge's ears & what does he do, go on a full blown speech!

ETA: I can see any of the final 4 win, except Sheetal. She's too all over the place.
Phil: Claire likes to say "You can be part of the problem, or part of the solution." But I happen to believe you can be both. Modern Family

    Re: MasterChef

    I really like this show

much better than Hells Kitchen, which gets so boring watching them
fall behind and "the kitchen is closing" stuff

I too think they MUST have some sort of basic recipe on the baking challenges cause baking is NOT like cooking, it is much more of a science
Making a first time souffle would be pretty impossible without some sort of
    recipe

I am glad the "doctor" went home...using her late mother as a sympathy card was pretty lame (and I think she also used her recipes...didn't she have a book of them?)

I also think Chattel?? should be the next to leave...a lot of her stuff is pretty weak, that pudding mess was pretty sad.

I did like Sharone but he started to be kind of a jerk, Lee and him really got into a "rivalry" I guess.

    Re: MasterChef

Out of the remaining contestants, I want Whitney to win. She is the only one left who combines a likable personality with skills. Sheetal has a good personality but she has a very limited skill set. Lee and David are jerks.

I think the only thing holding Whitney back is herself, the girl has mad potential. She excels when she isn't given time to actually think about things and second guess herself. It's during the longer challenges (IE the elimination ones) that she over does things by second guessing everything she does. In the wooden box challenges that are quick, she wins because she can't over do it and can't keep adding to it.

If the final challenge is a super fast one, she will win. If it is a long one? She will shoot herself in the foot.

I get the distinct feeling that she is Gordon's "girl" and he wants her to win. This is based off all the comments he kept making to her to hurry up, don't screw up, etc.

Oh and about the recipe comments: They have them. You can clearly see them for the baking challenges. They all keep looking down at a typed up sheet that is kept under their tables (there is some sort of cutting board looking thing that slides out that they set them on). I think they are all given the basic recipe for whatever it is they are told to bake and then it is up to them to execute it and make it their own. I don't think they are given recipes for the challenges that aren't baking because I didn't see those sheets for those.
