you know, Paris, that does sort of look like "Kevin" from the show. Is he a shorter guy? Kevin on the show looked like he was 5' 8" or so, but he was standing next to big tall "Bo" so that could be deceptive, but he looked half a foot shorter than the other guy at least. I don't remember his teeth being quite so prominent though. Hockey will do that to you. :teeth
aha! It was Phil
Cats' goalie likes this screen
Phil Osaer's goal is be on a National Hockey League team, but for the
forseeable future, he'll have to be content with being on national
The IceCats' goalie had his 15 whatevers of fame earlier this week when he
was on the reality TV show, "Meet My Folks,' playing the part of a
boyfriend, which was the reality.
The show had Osaer saying something that, well, would not have been in a
Brady Bunch script. But that's just it, according to Osaer, it was a script.
"I regret it because I read from a script,' he said, "and I wish it could
have been more of the truth. In my position, being in the public eye, I
probably shouldn't have done it.
"But at the same time, it was fun, and it was funny, and I think it provided
a good laugh for everybody.'
Osaer met the girl featured in his segment two summers ago when he was doing
a training camp in Salem, N.H., and dated her for a couple of months. The
people from the TV show got in touch with him a while back.
"At first, I thought it was the guys (his teammates), you know, a prank
call,' Osaer said. "But it was real. They said they wanted to come over and
that they'd ask me questions, but when they did show up, they gave me a
script to read from.'
This year, at home and on the road, the IceCats will play to about 450,000
people. A lot more than that saw Osaer on TV, it seems. He has heard from
long-lost friends, and, he added, "I think my entire university (Ferris
State) saw it. I heard from my family and they loved it, well, some of them
loved it. I think my aunts and my mom maybe were a little disappointed.'
And even Lindsey, his ex from the show, called him and it was nice to hear
from her again.
Osaer's teammates have come up with ideas to help him perhaps further his
television career. Jason Dawe has suggested a show called "Phil Billionaire'
where Osaer is made out to be rich.
"At the end,' he said, "they find out I'm a minor-league hockey goalie
living in Worcester.'
Sometime today, Osaer will board a bus headed for Philadelphia, then
Norfolk, Va. He gets to ride buses doing 65 mph, then get hit by hockey pucks
doing 100 mph.
It's not TV, but it sure is reality in the AHL.
