I hate Tony. The guy is a jerk at the very core of his being.

You can say what you want about Billie Jean and her friends - but they stood by her when Tony treated her like dirt.

    Yes they did.
Billie Jean is still young, it's not as though she's "on the shelf", she has plenty of time to look for somoen who is deserving of her and who will feel the same about her as she does about them.

Tony was right not to go through with the marriage if he didn't think it would work, but his timing was awful..
I actually wonder if the rules of the show stated that once they made the final two stage, they had to make their ultimate decision during the ceremony

He could easily have backed out earlier, but that isn't such good tv for Fox.

Fluff, I would definitely assume that you are right about when they had to make the final decision.

I guess that's why I don't hate Tony as much as others (that and the fact that I only watched one episode )

I WILL say Billie Jean's best friend really stood by her when she needed support the most. I give him credit for doing so. I had my views on her from past episodes, but I truly felt bad for her when she had her heart broken last night. I realize Tony had told her he didn't love her, but during the ceremony, he almost had us fooled into thinking he was going to marry her. She looked absolutely devastated.
I don't think anyone deserves to have their heart ripped in two like this.

cali, I don't necessarily think Tony is all bad either, and he certainly knows what to say when.

You missed a few things about Tony in the previous eps. Strike one, he kissed a stripper (prostitute/escort?) during his bachelor party and then said it was "okay." Strike two, after this act, he told his friend that Billie Jean had won the lottery by "winning" him.

Some people have mentioned that he'd been particularly cold to Billie Jean (e.g., the shake-n-bake scene). I didn't mind that behavior. It's quite possible he had some difficulty with Billie Jean's dramatics and tried to keep his disdain to himself. That was an isolated moment, and I'm sure many of us would have felt uncomfortable leveling with Billie Jean on camera.

But his altar timing was strike three.

By the way, cali, I didn't mean for that post to be read as "reasons why you, too, should not have a high opinion of Tony." I think it's a wonderful thing when people see the good in others. I know that I've said and done a number of naive and incredibly stupid things in my lifetime and would be really isolated if people only viewed me in terms of those mistaken acts.

In re Tony I think that there are a number of people, men and women, who have made mistakes in relationships and not acted responsibly. Tony had worries that he might not be faithful, because he had a number of friends who hadn't been. Right now he's someone who abrogates his responsibilites. He did tell Billie Jean of the kiss, but he didn't really own up to it: he acted as if it was okay. The more he lets himself off the hook for acts of sleaze, the more untrustworthy he is. Yes, this guy shouldn't have gotten married. But also, yes, this guy should not be in committed relationships. He's not a bad guy, but he's very likely to have some painful life lessons, beyond just this FOX-fiasco.

Anyway, cali, I just wanted to check myself there. I caught myself being judgmental of this guy, and didn't want to convince you to be too. I just wanted to address the topic of inappropriate behavior.
