I think the promo said that they agree to get ENGAGED and then the show follows them for 5 weeks or so. They don't really have any obligation to get married.

Yes, they MUST get engaged, and if they choose to get married, the show will do it right there.
I heard on one of the entertainment shows that they have to live together for five weeks too.
