To make movies
A quick tour of my life (short paragraph)
At the age of eleven, I was handed a video camera. From that day on I knew I wanted to be a film director. In high school, I studied drama and comedy and was voted class president, class clown and most likely to succeed. After high school, I moved to New York City where I attended film school at the School of Visual Arts. After film school, I met my future wife on a location shoot in Minnesota and, after a small stint in North Carolina and Kentucky, I moved to Minneapolis... started a commercial production company and married the girl of my dreams. I currently work as a promotions producer for ShopNBC.
Describe yourself in one sentence...
I'm an energetic, funny, imaginative seven year old trapped in the body of a thirty-one year old man.
Your theme song?
"Best Imitation of Myself," Ben Folds Five
First movie you ever saw?
Star Wars
Favorite line from a movie?
"Its Showtime folks," All That Jazz
What made you want to be a filmmaker?
I love telling stories.
When you make a film what do you want the audience to leave with?
A big smile on their face
When I'm behind the camera...
I'm bouncing off the walls from the director's monitor to the actors and so on and so on. I'm not the kind of director that sits in the chair all day long... I can't contain my excitement... so you'll find me pacing, working with the actors, planning out the next shot, etc. I'm not one of these "sit there and stare at the walls" kind of director. I go on instinct.
What do you think it will be like working with other Directors?
This will be the most challenging part. It's going to be difficult. Each filmmaker has such a unique style. They approach a scene a certain way, actors a certain way...it's going to be a real struggle.
Favorite joke about Directors/Actors?
How many directors does it take to screw in a light bulb? 100. 1 to do it and 99 to stand around thinking, "I could have done it much better."
Movie that best encapsulates who you are?
The Graduate
While On The Lot you have a week to make a film every week. What's the biggest challenge?
Working with other filmmakers.
When you get the power, how will you use it?
With complete and total respect. I'm here to make movies...not to feed my ego.
What's more important talent or ego?
Talent.
