This is the first season I've watched this show, so I can't compare Anthony to Jay Mohr. But, to me, he's doing his job and doing it well. What are you guys expecting out of a reality TV show host? Bad example, I'd say. Probst has very arguably elevated the job of reality host, because he interacts with the players, is very often the proxy for what the home viewer inevitably is thinking, and in fact has become a part of the game's definition itself.

It's not that a host NEEDS to be charming or magnetic (I will use the example of the recent "Treasure Hunters" show, which features a robotic host who thankfully doesn't interfere with the show only because the show is edited so that he's superfluous). But a good host improves a show, and a bad host better be tucked away and minimized otherwise.

I'll summarize like this.

A good game show host is universally charming but unobtrusive. Witness the disaster of Ricki Lake in the recent "Game Show Marathon" revival thing, if you've seen that. She's not unobtrusive, and her charm is debatable.

A good reality show host CAN be unobtrusive, but the truly excellent ones are the complete opposite. And the charm HAS to be there, as well as a seeming REAL interest in the game. Compare Julie Chen to Jeff Probst. Julie's interest in the game is SO obviously fake it comes off as mechanical. Probst though seems to actually enjoy his job. It comes through.

He is a terrible host! The worst I have seen. A host needs to ground the show and provide glue for continutiy. He is weak and ineffectual. His serious demeanor is out of place in a show about comedy.

Perfect explanation Krom, IMO, that's exactly how I think a host on a reality show should be. Especially a comedy one.

Oh, and there is no debate (w/me anyway) on Ricky Lake and her "charm", or, better yet.. lackthereof.

anthony is really ugly on that show they must do alot of stuff to him for his acting career because man on lcs (last comic standing) he is so ugly i cant stand it!

I totally Agree!!! Worst host on any reality TV show IMO.

Yes! And I will add, out of an old Twilight Zone or Alfred Hitchcock TV show.
