Just want to make a few comments......
1) Bonnie thinks she cant beat Kathy, and players seem to perceives Kathy as someone who can send anyone packing.
2) Jay and Kathy seem to be the most reputable comedians in the house, even the host made some comments about that. And another star player, Alonzo, however, is a relatively newcomer to the comedy scene, quite remarkable the materials he has.
I personally think Gary is very funny, and put him up near Alonzo (though I admit Alonzo is looking very good to win right now). Kathleen has never been THAT funny to me, and she hasn't performed much. Jay shouldn't be in the house, Tammy is pretty bad (few jokes), Corey and John are both personable and have some good material... I think that's everyone... if it's not, whoever I left out can't be that funny!
That's how I see it, at least.
Just to clarify-I did mean the first Bed, Bath & Beyond joke I heard which was by Alonzo. Maybe I should've been clearer, but thanks to those who pointed out I was not mistaken.
But seriously, I don't get why some people (including perhaps some of the comedians in the medieval porn mansion) see Kathleen as such a star player or threat. Do you think it's because they're going by the fact that she has more of a reputation in the biz and years under her belt "perfecting" her act? Or perhaps NBC hasn't shown us her best stuff yet? I seriously have only chuckled once at anthing she's said. I find her the least funniest in the house. Comedy is soooo subjective when all is said and done.
For what my opinion is worth, I'm rooting for either Alonzo or John. And they're both not too shabby in the looks department. Take that Gary!
I personally think the star players are Alonzo and John, and perhaps even Corey.
Coming up in the second group would be Kathy and Tammy.
I personally don't find Gary or Jay to be very funny. :shrug
Goes to show, it's partly a matter of taste.
Not sure why Kathleen has been so "absent" in this series. Perhaps they are saving more of her stuff for the end. Of all the comedians in the house she's the only one I'd heard of before the series began. In fact I wondered why she's even doing the show -- seems to me as though she's too big of a name for this. What's my criterion? She's already had her own network special. They don't give those to hacks. Apparently she's also a pretty decent person. I was very impressed that Corey chose Kathleen to accompany him to Aspen because she'd treated him well when he was coming up in the business.
It's an interesting group of comedians, for sure. But if my theory holds I think Kathleen will take everything and I'm rooting for her.
I don't know about Kathleen. She's defenitely the Geoff of the house this year, though she is more talented than Geoff. She's kind of coasting on her rep right now and she seems to be well respected. Alonzo is a monster, plain and simple. He is this years Ralphie, though thinner, taller and blacker, obviously. Corey is great. I love his stuff about inviting the ex of the girl he's dating back into his own house. He has great stage presence. Also his Q&A with Tess made me laugh more than I've yet laughed watching the show. "Now I'm not gonna force you to do anything you don't wanna do. But I will explain to you before you take a bite of your burger....what the expectations are. And expectations will be high, baby girl." Genius. Jay London, is also a genius, but one of those misunderstood geniuses. Comics and comic fans respect his work, but a general audience won't get it. In a head to head he'll lose, no doubt.
Gary and Jon are defenitely the wild cards. Gary has the whole movie star looks and height and has some good bits and GREAT presence. John is more talented and better material, but is more "cute" than gorgeous. How they are portrayed in the house will be how they are finally judged. Who ever comes across as more sympathetic will win.
Gary has the best potential to become a "star" overall, not just sitcoms, but potentially in movies. Tall good looking....jewish. The last jewish leading man that I can think of, filmwise though, is Kurt Dougals. Sitcom wise, though the list is pretty imressive.
I respectfully disagree. I don't consider myself to be general audience... two of my favourite comics are Mitch Hedburg and Stephen Wright, and yet, I don't like Jay London. I "get" his jokes... I just don't find him to be that funny because I find him to be more sight gag than substance. Grow some poofy hair, wear some old clothes and make jokes about being a neandrathal and working in the Beyond department. woo.

Then again, Mr. Touque is just telling me that I missed a really good set of London's, so :shrug...
Tongue you've got Alan Rickman in your Avatar so you're defenitly not "general". Your "general audience" wouldn't find him gorgeous, much less know who he is. Or they'd say he's that guy from the Harry Potter movies.
And I'd say Jay London is a evolutionary decendant(throwback :) )of Steven Write's stuff. London's stuff may not be as good as Write's...but he's close.
Alan Rickman not considered mainstream gorgeous?!!! What do I care? I still love him truly, madly deeply.
Now where's that #$!! winking smiley face emoticon when I need it? ;o)
Alan Rickman IS fabuloso!! And yes, he's a pretty fine speciman of the male persuasion...
Kathy does seem to be a pretty decent person from what we've seen on the show AND it is telling that Corey picked her to go to Aspen as well.
Steven Wright over Jay London? I second that!
