ant relies on gay jokes for the bulk of his act, but i doubt he has actually written any of his own gay joke material......maybe the scooby doo line is his own, but i doubt that too....seriously, all of his gay material is old and busted, nothing but jokes from elementary school.....

I have the strong impression that most of the anti-Ant sentiment here is motivated by homophobia at some level. Not all of it, but most of it.

There are simply too many people who object to his persona as a gay man, even when he makes it a minor part of his act.

I found the whole business with Corey amazing. Todd apparently called Ant a "f*****" or used the word in some way. Ant objected, saying that it was the equivalent of calling a black person a "n*****" (equal opportunity asterisks). Then Corey goes nuts AT ANT, who didn't call him the n-word, but simply made a perfectly reasonable analogy. At no point does Corey or anyone else tell Todd not to use the other term. Evidently it's acceptable to throw around nasty terms when referring to gays, but not blacks? Uh, huh. If it were possible to have any less respect for Corey, that would have done it. What a hypocrite.

I agree about Corey- after his tirade to Ant, I disliked him and would never vote on him because I heard he kept calling Ant the F word that was edited out- Corey became like a psycho and it was too creepy.

But I don't know about Ant, I'm gay and I don't think people's dislike of him is because of that- and he doesn't make it a minor part of his act, it's been almost his whole act, even last night, half the act was that- I think it's him, I don't think it's because he's gay, I don't think people think his gay jokes are that funny, neither do I sometimes and i'm gay myself so i don't think that's it.

    Yes, thanks for the debate.

By the way, I don't recall saying WHEN I thought of it. You know it might have been when I saw the joke and I didn't think of mentioning it until now.

I think it's a combination of the weaknesses on his part that you cite and an underlying level of unease. There are a fair number of people who seem to me to have made it clear that they don't want to hear ANY gay humor, much less the amount that Ant does.

Again, I certainly don't think that's why everyone who dislikes him does so. Maybe I'm wrong. I'd certainly like to be wrong. I'll agree to be wrong.

I like gay humor and I don't like Ant. I think he's occasionally funny and is a good performer (I think he'd be a better actor than comedian), but I find his stand-up to be weak, and I'm annoyed by how often he has repeated the same jokes. Also, he sure comes off as a jerk in the house, which is reason to root against him.

Corey probably is as homophobic as Ant says...his "act" is no act. I'm sure he's just as much of a bum and a misogynist as he claims to be. People's source of humor comes from something real.

my problem with Ant is that he only has 5 jokes and he tells them over and over, with this huge bug-eyed expression like they were brand new every damn time. The bit about boxing being a gay sport, didn't he get called for recycling that joke in the "try-out" episodes from LAST SEASON. Read a newspaper, Ant, there has to be something in the news in the last year that you could write a joke about.

I agree with this sentiment. I also think Ant would be a bettter actor than he is as a stand-up. When others do their routine, it sounds like they are talking to the audience. but Ant's routine sounds like a performance. He's "acting as a stand-up comic", and his lines come out sounding like someone telling a children's story to a schoolroom full of kids. Oh yeah ... of course, the story would be a fairy tale.

    that there is funny....

i have seen 'gay comedy' that was funny, i'm just not impressed with ant.
he has an ok stage presence, but his act does come across as a 'performance' and not a natural flow....and i seriously don't think he has ever written a joke of his own......i'd be pretty impressed if he wrote any material, gay or straight, that was original and funny

/would love to see one of the 'kids in the hall' show up for next season to show ant how 'gay comedy' can get laughs

didn't ant make some comment tuesday about how it wasn't easy being in charge of the alliance?
did he forget when he got booted he made a big deal about not being the leader of the alliance so people wouldn't hold a grudge against him?
and, no, he wasn't being sarcastic, he was talking about life in the house
