Thanks for the reply John. Those were good explanations, especially number 3. It's OK to clump, but not in an overt way. I'm still having trouble building up enough juice to actually post much about other shows because as I said, I love "Survivor." I never miss it. I wonder what it was about the Joe Schmo Show that gave that little extra motivation? Oh well, I need to stop wasting your time and get back to working on my web site.

    Thanks again.

I think the other thing people didn't realize is that John has gone through the process of shutting down show threads many times before. A quick flip through the archives shows the same sort of sense of community building around a show and the "I'll miss you all" threads as it all comes to end. So, its something he's been through before while for many people here it was a feeling of loss since it was someplace they came to hang out like the local bar where everyone knows your name... even if its not really your name and you probably don't get your e-mail at your local bar... but... ah, I suck at analogies...

I for one don't visit other sites because this site is run/monitored/updated better then any other site that I've come across. You seem to be "biting the hand" that feeds YOU imo. You "thought" about contributing, but are happy now that you didn't? Wow. So you posted over 80 some posts on this site, and I'd dare to speculate that it was all about The Joe Schmo Show.... NOW that the show is over, you're saying the appreciation is nil? Well, you sure did have a dandy good time in the thread when you were posting whatever you wanted, whenever you wanted...without any problems. Convenient that you're appreciation is nil NOW.
John has a valid point for the discussion about the $$ and taxes, if you'd of read the whole THREAD, you'd see that the subject HAS been hashed over plenty. Usually it is erickman who starts the banter about Matt being paid or not...and it's a typical trollish behavior. John...being the astute site owner he is...saw the tell-tale signs of yet another "troll & bait trick" happening, and decided to nip it in the butt before it consumed the thread again.

"Recent turn of events"? What's that melsbud, you deciding NOT to contribute? The recent turn of events that I've noticed of this site is alot of dedication to making it absolutely wonderful AND FREE for those of us who want to participate. How about a site where to even READ it, you HAVE TO PAY?!
I think I speak for "ALL THE OTHERS" who are still on this site and DON'T give a rats crap if the tired old debate about taxes/100K is still able to be talked about or not.
"First off", Maveno, let me start out by saying that I do not appreciate being flamed by you. Whether or not John agrees with me, I think that while my msg was blunt, at least I did not resort to online "yelling" or blatant sarcasm to argue my points.

Having said that I'm already put off by your rude comments regarding a discussion that I am quite open-minded to (I *do* understand to a degree where John is coming from, even if I don't put it as eloquently as Random Terrain), let me make it clear that I *do* appreciate what John did for this thread, as well as the fact that he has continued to keep it open this long. When I spoke about my appreciation being nil and the "recent turn of events", it was due to his rude treatment to people who have donated money to this site.

Understandably, the whole section of the thread about Matt's pay cheque has been discussed to death, and I do not consider myself a troll who'd like to continue it. As for the taxes discussion, you said yourself that all of my posts have probably been on the Joe Schmo tread (and you'd be right). If you had thought long enough to NOT FLAME ME (See, yelling isn't nice, is it? Neither is sarcasm.) you'd also realize that I haven't read any other thread, so for me this topic is both interesting and new.

Again, I appreciate John's response. My post was not meant to be an attack on John personally, but what I interpreted to be unfair treatment towards some of the members.

Frankly, I now think this subject has been bludgeoned to death. Enough already. If anyone wants to respond to my post, it should be John, and he already has, polite-ishly enough and without deleting my post.

To keep this on topic, Joe Schmo rules! And I'll be watching the "new" reruns tomorrow with Matt's commentary.

Question to John: If the commentary is worth discussing, will this board be open longer?

    Great posts, Random and Maveno.

John deserves nothing but credit for running such a great, free Web site. It's an enormous job coordinating it, and I don't understand how he does it.

Ok - I guess its my turn to try and explain.
We set up this site to be about currently running reality shows .

We have over ten thousand members.
We have over sixteen thousand active threads of which Joe Schmo is (um) one.

We didn't even have enough interest to have a forum.( And don't send statistics - Not one of the mods wanted a forum.)

We have extensively covered many reality shows with hundreds of contestants. The site isn't about any one show or any one contestant. We aren't set up to be a fan site of one show or person, and never wanted to fill that niche.

When a show is over after about a week, it gets archived , and people just post random stuff in it like -
Justin Guarari got arrested for dangerous driving ,
Alex Michel made a porn film,
Jerri Manthey is starring in a reality revue in Las Vegas with Sarah Kozer.
Don't bug John - why have/n't you archived it yet blah blah. Yes some people have.

We don't keep rehashing the shows/contestants over and over. That's fan site stuff.

    We don't do that.-
    For any show.
    Never Have.
    Never will.
John doesn't do it for his own faves , or for ours. Fluff and I would still be talking about Ethan Zohn ....
If that doesn't suit some , then this is the wrong site for you.

You don't have to flounce out in a huff exclaiming loudly how you HAVE to leave because you have been treated so poorly, and change your Av to black , your tag to pending or missing . One of the ones who did is a source of very much amusement , especially with her "the site will die without us" pms to all.
Um yeah . Ok . We'll just have to rely on some of the other sixteen thousand threads to keep some traffic I guess.

I'm not being insulting , or rude. I'm just telling it like it is, and has been since day one here.
This thread will remain open to discuss the show if they are re-running it or whatever, but Please don't bash/flame and engage in quote wars with others..
Otherwise we really will expect you to move on with your lives, and only post updates on post show happenings. If that bothers you . I'm sure there is a Joe Schmo fan site out there with your name on it. You could even start your own.

As for current FoRT action , I notice someone is a Canucks fan . We have a very active hockey thread in the Sports forum .Contrary to popular belief we don't really stuff Red Wing fans in trunks . Only cause John won't let us.

In addition to reality shows. We also have non reality show forums, games,Music, Movie, books and even a Current events forum where you can discuss stuff ( in a polite way) on Hot Topics. I suggest some of you go on a search .... You might find something you like.

    Hope this helps

Were these pms sent to moderators or do you read pms sent between posters?

We do not read PM's of anyone but ourselves. Not only is it illegal, it's highly inappropriate.

So, back to Joe Schmo discussion...

Is the segment commentary by Matt any good? Does it add anything to the enjoyment of the show being re-run?

Well I rarely watch a show/movie more than once, no matter how much I like it. But I saw last night, for the 3rd time, the first hour of the series. His commentary does add to the enjoyment of seeing it again. We find out what Matt was thinking during a certain part of the show, thru his spoken introductions and thru the pop up boxes that come up during the actual show.

I will probably watch the rest of the series again, just to see what he was thinking during a certain moment in time. He is a likeable person, who adds a lot with his presence onscreen. I don't know how many new/old people will post in this thread during the next 9 weeks or so, but you will know best when to move this thread to The Archives!

Thanx once again John for your site and for the opportunity to chat with many people that share my same interests.

    Chris

Hi everyone. If you look at only the number of posts I have made you will immediately consider me a newbie. However I have spent days reading through all the messages posted about “Joe Schmo” and consider myself part of the community here. I found FORT by accident just as I stumbled across the Joe Schmo show. I watched every episode during the marathon re-aired on Spike-TV before the finale. Like most of you I was immediately caught up in this spoof of Reality Television that was made surprisingly human by the extraordinarily noble character we all saw in Matt. In this world of terror and suffering it was heartening to see the good guy win. I was also excited to see the many posts from cast members. They helped me to better know the actors behind the characters. I will enjoy watching their careers continue and will support any project I find them in. From someone who has read this from top to bottom it’s amazing to see how this community has progressed. My only disappointment has been reading about the infighting about the forum but that in itself is understandable once you consider how loyal the fans are. The bottom line here is I wanted to say thanks for all the great reading. I look forward to being more active if we see a Joe Schmo 2. I’d write more but it’s time for me to go back working for the man.
