8/21/2012 - Design All Stars Finale

    Leslie won.

I think all three rooms were great and the editing looked as if Hilari was going to win. I do wish Tom had used a pop of color throughout his space, it would have been perfect then, instead of all the neutrals. Sarah Richardson tends to use a lot of neutrals but she always has color in the room that really makes it look special. I just wish Tom had gone that route.

Haven't watched the ep, so can't comment on the actual win. But I was rooting for Tom.

Tom is a one trick pony. The formal design in the shipping crate didn't work. His style is overworked for my tastes.

For me I liked Leslie's the least. It must have looked better in person. On my TV it looked cluttered and not welcoming with the deck an after thought.

I really thought Hilary would win. I liked hers the best and her on camera style is relaxed, not perfect but each new host gets their sea legs in time.

Well, with this competition, Leslie won't be a host of a show, but a guest on a show. I wonder which one?

I also liked Hilari's the best because of the deck area and the space planning. I think she lost because Genevieve just couldn't get past the wall color. Leslie, more than Tom, attempted to use the deck space and showed a mesh of adult/child uses for the space. To me it felt jumbled, but I think she won on the Murphy bed. Tom's was a gallery, which if it was a real gallery, would be great. I just don't see anyone actually living there or using it for a weekend retreat.

The summer contest season is over. I noticed when David was introduced on the panel, ColorSplash was not added after his name. Is he going to produce any more of those shows, or is he going onto permanent type hosting gigs? He has become such a personality for the network, he may move more into network than talent.

I agree about Leslie's looking cluttered, and I didn't think it was very interesting, but she did have the great Murphy bed idea. I liked Hillari's best, too. Tom's work is beautiful for what it is, but you're right that he's a one-trick pony.

I liked Hilari's best and Leslie's least too. I also thought Leslie's was cluttered and not well thought out. I thought her outside space wasn't nearly as good as Hilari's. IMO it just looked like she bought outdoor wicker furniture you can buy anywhere. Hilari's walls elevated her outdoor space so much better.

I agree that Leslie won with the murphy bed, which I thought was a great idea but not well executed. I also think they liked her on camera better, but I did not. They also kept saying that she must have gone home and practiced that aspect. I doubt Hilari had time to go home and practice.

When I listened to David's blog recap of episode 4 he basically said that he thought that Hilari had the best space plan and best use of outdoor space and she showed the judges something different. I think Genevieve vetoed Hiliari as the winner because of the salmon colored walls. Tom is one note and that is why he didn't win. Leslie had the best use of space with the murphy bed.
