I know it's been discussed before, but....

Is it really necessary to smoke like an f'ing chimney to get on the show? Maybe my friends and/or associates are unusual, but I don't think 5% of my friends smoke, yet EVERYBODY on this show does.

    What is up with that?

Someone said they smoked so that they could insist upon getting a break from working the line. I don't know if they were joking or not, but I would not want to be surrounded by cigarette smoke.

Of course, working the line seems pretty bad to me (who has never done that). Must be horribly hot with all those burners going, standing on your feet, people shouting orders.

The smoking will become an issue soon. The "palate test" hasn't been shown yet. That is where they are blind folded and have to taste and identify foods. The smokers usually don't do well.
I don't object to the concept of a deity, but I'm baffled by the notion of one that takes attendance.

Exactly why I question any chef smoking in the first place...destroys one of the most important assets a chef can have....that's why seeing them all sitting around puffing away seems so strangely incongruous to me....

I always comment on all the smoking too. Maybe they do it as a camaraderie type activity.

Anthony Bourdain is an established chef and smokes like a chimney.

Are there any of them that do not smoke?
