Given the fact that these shows are highly edited, after thinking "yuck," my second thought was that this was out of sequence. He was missing for a moment, and so they pasted in footage taken wehn the shift was over with him picking his toe jam. At least I hope that's what really happened...otherwise it is extremely bizarre behavior!
