The host is Marco Pierre White who is a well-known chef. I don't know if he is Ramsay's mentor. Maybe he was at one point but they've very publicly feuded in the past. Apparently Ramsay worked for White at one point. White wrote a book and it included a pic of Ramsay crying in his (White's) kitchen. White says he didn't make Ramsay cry, instead Ramsay made himself cry. So he's known as the chef who brought Gordon Ramsay to tears.

I caught the UK show last week and it's hysterical. There's a perfectly smarmy British host who had my husband & I rolling - FOX should really consider getting him for Ramsay's US edition. White is much less vocal than Ramsay, and the contestants do most of the cussing, but he's more intimidating than Gordon. We here in North America won't know most of the contestants, but I did recognize Kelly LeBrock and Paul Young.

I like Ramsay's HK, but I find White to be a far more interesting character. He's much scarier-looking, too.
