    Ode to AmandaG (sort of...)

    Hello everybody.

    I'm sad.

I was going through this thread so that I could put a face to some of the fine posters at the FORT. Little did I know what was coming. AmandaG posted her picture, and it was not what I expected. Oh, sure—I knew she might look a little different from her av, but in this case the shock was too great. I've attached a picture of what I assumed she would look like. But she didn’t look like the picture—not even close.

I had often fantasized about us strolling on a deserted, moonlit beach together, her super-thin arms entwined around me… her wide-set black eyes beaming up at me from the center of her round, pale-white face. One of my arms would have been around her boxy body as we walked barefoot in the cool, wet sand… silvery flecks of moonlight dancing off the water. The other would have lovingly held her hammer and nails, hoping—perhaps unrealistically—to hear those honey-drenched words: “Nail me, bloonman, nail me!”

Instead, she looked just like all the other ‘solids’ out there—attractive in her own way, of course, but not the AmandaG I had grown to know and love.

So that's why I'm sad. Yes, I’ll still read her posts. But it won’t be the same. My illusion of happiness has been shattered into a million tiny shards. The fantasy is over. I think I’ll try to cheer myself up with a Sylvia Plath poem—just not the one with the fish in it at the end.
