Dad & Moms Max catches rabbits once in a while, but then my Mom says Max put it down and it hops away.. just like the one time he was nonchalantly strolling (if a cat on a leash in the yard can stroll) looking like the proverbial cat who ate the canary... Mom saw something sticking out of maxs mouth .. hmmmm... walks towards Max, Max starts doing the kitty sideways walk with his head down..... MAX open your mouth! (Max being a talker, of course opened his mouth to answer, and a baby bird FLEW out.)

So, we've been in our new house about 2 months. I was at the back of the yard for a few minutes this morning (trying to see what plants I had back there) and when I returned there was a baby possum swimming in the pool I'm squeamish about stuff like that but I rescued it with the pool net and it kind of shook itself off and ran away. I thought they were nocturnal, and this one was definitely a baby...where was mom? Yikes, I don't hold out a lot of hope for it.

ETA: True to form, it was a gong show at my house as my daughter and I tried to save it. I am sure our new neighbours think we are nuts!
My Mom once discovered a possum in their pool. She tried to save it with the net and then MADE my brother jump in to rescue it. The Possum hurled up about five gallons of pool water all over the deck and then hissed at my mom and brother and waltzed of into the woods.

I also had a bad Possum/Car incident. I hit a Possum. Since they spend a lot of time in the middle of the road eating roadkill, this was not unusual. However, I didn't see THIS Possum in the rear view mirror and I was sure that he was lodged under my car (waiting to jump out and hiss at me). I actually talked my Dad into going under my car with a flashlight and making sure that the nasty critter wasn't under there.

Happy Birthday to Gustav!

So, I take it you're NOT one of those Southerners that EAT possum?

(I don't either. Don't you know that a possum and an armadillo's habitat is to hang out in the middle of the road waiting to get run over? In Florida, that was where we ALWAYS saw both critters. I remember my daughter was about 9 and we saw a LIVE armadillo and she says: "gosh, mom, I've never seen one ALIVE before")
