.We also tend to name pets after family. We have had cows, goats and sheep with our names (I was never amused when my name was attached to the goats lol). And if not specific family, pets in our family and extended family tend to get people names in general although our last three pets have been given traditional pet-sounding names, whatever that means, right?! | |

| Re: For animal lovers MRD, it's interesting to me that your birds sleep with their backs exposed to predators. They must feel very secure in your carport. Prhoshay, I hope your doves return also. Our hummingbird lost her nest due to high winds two years ago and didn't return until this year, so here's hoping you have the same fortune. I get tremendous enjoyment from all the wildlife around us (Mr. Rose and I talk about how we must be getting old to delight in the birds ) and this is what we woke up to this morning. This pair of ducks (the female is standing on the brick coping on the left) stop by every year for about an hour on their migration route. Maggie (my current av) is so used to them she's bored, but Howard (our big dumb loveable mutt) was SHOCKED to see them in the yard. Apparently he doesn't remember from year-to-year. I should talk...I'm obviously as dumb as he is because we have a chlorine dispenser that looks just like the mallard, and I couldn't figure out why the pool water was moving/sloshing so much. It took me several minutes to realize that wasn't our dispenser, but the real thing! It took several more minutes before I even noticed the female. ![]() ![]() | |

| Re: For animal lovers I love that picture of the two birds tucked into the carport corner. They look so cozy. The ducks in the pool remind me of the first episode of The Sopranos, Tony loved the duck family in his pool. |

| Re: For animal lovers Those are great pictures, roses and myrosiedog! And great stories to go along with them. I'm fascinated that you two can keep up with the bird comings and goings at your place. I just curse at the birds and scare them off when they come to my backyard. But then I don't have any trees and they dive-bomb my veggies. Since today was Good Friday I had the day off and took the kids to the park and then we went to the pet store to get some hamster bedding for a very picky Russian dwarf who will only tolerate one kind of bedding. Grr... But we took our time and the kids oohed and aahed over the fish and small animals they had up for adoption. The kids picked out some neat toys for their hamsters and I'm amazed that they're still alive. They both got one from the Easter Bunny last year. I never thought they'd make it a whole year! Then we went by the cat adoption center because I keep going back and forth about adopting a kitty (now that I have permission I'm a little afraid to make the jump). They had them all separated except for two cats who had been declawed. I felt so bad for them. After reading this thread and following the links regarding declawing I am now a firm supporter of outlawing that practice. The declawed cats looked like they didn't groom themselves and were unhappy. That was probably more in my mind than reality, but I still think they looked at me differently. One of these days I'm going to go in there and fall in love with a cat and that will be it.

Blog Entries: 7 | Re: For animal lovers Cool, Ducks in the pool!!!! I never thought about my birds sleeping with their backs out before. They must feel safe in the carport. We have two hawks in the neighborhood too. Hmmm. Well here's a sort of interesting Waldo story. He's getting famous. I was having dinner with my friend last night when her cell phone rings. She answered it and during the conversation (it was a short one, the friend just got out of the hospital after falling at work, so I didn't mind that my friend took the call) says she is out to dinner with me. Apparantly the other person asks (I've never met the person who called) for more clarification and my friend says: "she's the friend I met at the museum". Then I hear her say: "Yes, Waldo's Mother". I was surprised. She doesn't know me, but she knows Waldo??? Well apparantly my friend's daughter is friends with the other friends daughter (are you following this? ) and the daughter told her ALL about Waldo and what a goofy, loveable, interesting dog he is. So she doesn't know me, but she already knows all about my dog. The mutt is getting famous! ![]()
