That is so cool, roseskid! My parents have a small tree that robins use to build a nest, maybe I should try photograph their progress.

Rosekid, that is so cool that she has come back year after year. Please keep us updated.

Late last summer and fall, we noticed that we had a bird sleeping on the ledge in the corner of our carport. He/she would stick his beak in the corner and his little tail would hang over the ledge. Well he disappeared when it got cold, but last week, I noticed he was back and has a mate. He no longer has to nose into the corner alone at night!

They are both there every night, but gone in the mornings when we get up.

I'm hoping my mourning doves come back to my downspout, after a 2 year absence. They were coming every year until their nest got blown out twice in one season when we had rough weather. They rebuilt the first time, but after that they disappeared. I called them Gertrude and Heathcliff.

My great-grandmother was named Mourning because there were mourning doves cooing outside the window when she was born. My niece is named after her and both use the spelling of the dove with the "U" in it.

My grandfather's middle name was Early (after Gen. Early in the Civil War) and my husband and I used to joke that if we had another daughter, we should use his name and my great-grandmother's name and call her Early Mourning.

My family also tends to name pets after members of the family. We had a cat named for me and a dog named for my brother and another cat one of my neices named by the family surname.
Weird family with weird names.
