He's started cleaning himself up with enthusiasm so he no longer smells like a trash heap, though he can't seem to make the effort to clean his face, so he looks a bit like a Little Rascal. And after a couple of days of expressing his remaining spray (peeyew), he finally seems to have run out, to the house (and my pillows, the little pest) is starting to smell like a house again, and not a cat bordello. But best of all, he comes when we whistle, just like the original two boys do. We're trying to bond him to the house, so after we let him out for the first time yesterday, after about half an hour, we went out to the driveway, gave a whistle and after a minute, he appeared from someone's driveway down the street and trotted down the sideway to us. Yaaaay. He's now our boy.

Re: For animal lovers

Rattus, I'm glad things are working well with Lincoln. He's a cutie.

Waldo is in LOVE with our friend Dave. And it didn't take Dave long to to pick up on the "lucky dog" thing, except he says to him "I'm a goofy dog, I'm a goofy dog" like the lucky dog commercials.

The only problem is that every time Dave gets up to walk anywhere, Waldo nips him on the butt. But he thinks Dave is the best thing since milkbones.

Re: For animal lovers

Thanks for noticing that Lincoln is a sweetie, gabriel, doxie and mrd. He is most appreciative because he truly does enjoy praise, and with it being lavishly bestowed upon him, he is becoming a bit less terrified each day.

Something else we've noticed about him - he sounds like an elephant when he walks because his pads are huge and calloused. The poor wee beastie has been a street cat for at least a year and spent the worst Toronto winter in 70 years living outside, so his paws have apparently thickened for protective reasons. I am so glad I finally figured out a way to trap him because I really hate the thought of such a sweet natured animal being subjected to another harsh season outdoors. And if I ever find out who abandoned him, I will kill them.

That IS funny...

Now a bit of sad news. I just got off the phone with my Mom and last night Mom & Dad had to have Missy the Bassett Hound laid to rest at just about 12 years old. Something about a degenerative nerve and last night she couldn't pick up her hind legs, they got her to the emergency hospital, they had to intubate (sp?) her because her breathing was getting difficult and doctors were talking about checking her brain etc., Mom & Dad said no, she's had a good life and there was no guarantee of a good outcome. So Godspeed to you dear Missy, Miss Mona and a host of others are waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge - Go free.

Re: For animal lovers

Rattus, I'm so happy that Lincoln has someone like you to care for him and give him the shelter he needs. He's such a good-looking cat that it's a wonder nobody already took him in.

Gabriel, I'm sorry about the loss of your parents beloved Missy. I have a bad feeling this might be the last year for our dog. He's taken a downward turn ever since he's lost his sight.

prhoshay, I remember reading that about female cats spraying too. When I had a feeling my cat was in heat I read up on the signs and she fit them perfectly. In that reading, it mentioned the pros to having females spayed because not only will they pretty much stay in heat until they either mate or are spayed, but they can spray too while in heat, to attract males. Plus being in heat is very draining on them and if constantly in heat can wind up causing medical issues. I'm so happy she is spayed now and never did spray. Cat urine is probably THE most difficult smell to get rid of.

Re: For animal lovers

I'm so sorry to hear about Missy gabriel. .
I just got back from my vacation in Phoenix and have 2 cats glued to me and purring like crazy. I was gone one week and my daughter stopped by to check on them. She said she saw them in the window when she pulled up and they would hide when she came in.
