Re: For animal lovers

Okay...I couldn't resist posting this picture. My Mastiff is currently visiting family while we wait for our house (the place we are temporarily in is just too small etc). She is fitting in and the baby just loves her. I think this picture gives a good idea of her head size! The Neapolitan Mastiffs are too wrinkly for me, and the Fila (which is Brazilian Mastiff) tend to be too aggressive for my taste. I can hardly wait to get her back, since she is a large, VERY large part of our family. I am so grateful, however, she is with people that know and love her since she is a very people-oriented dog.

Waldo is very cute in those pics and does resemble the Tibetan Mastiff. I thought he was great, as well, but all that fur would be a lot of work!

Re: For animal lovers

mrd, your Waldo actually looks more like the Tibetan Mastiff that was on the show last night. Are you sure that's not what he is?

I think everyone fell in love with that dog, by the sounds of the crowd. He certainly was a charmer.

He did look a lot like that dog last night. If he is one, he's a dwarf one or a "minature". Waldo weighs only 55 pounds and according to the stuff I read online those Tibetan ones weigh from 100-200 pounds.

Waldo looked to be about half the size of that one last night. But they look so similar.

I honestly don't think I could handle a Waldo that weighed 200 pounds. His 55 pounds is enough sometimes when we have to make him do something he doesn't want to do.

Canuck, that picture is sooooo cute.

Re: For animal lovers

I found a link to that Tibetan Mastiff that won best in breed the other night.

He really does look a lot like Waldo, except Waldo is a bit darker in color.

His name is Timberline Barni Drakyi

Drakyi Tibetan Mastiffs-Show Biz

I really want one of these now.

I just need a lot of land and a lot of money for dog food.

Re: For animal lovers

He is a super cute dog! Actually, if they are like other Mastiffs you don't need all that much land since they tend to be couch potatoes. Running or playing for half and hour pretty much requires a very long nap afterwards Dog food...yep. I used to have it delivered 30 kg. at a time.

Re: For animal lovers

I don't know about Tibetan Mastiffs, but Newfs are NOT chow hounds. Gustav eats about 2 cups of kibble twice a day, and has about four small children cats cookies as a snack.

Re: For animal lovers

Wow. Stella eats between 8-10 cups a day of kibble, and she is not exceedingly large for a Mastiff. She is never desperate to eat though. The big boys probably eat at least 12-15 cups.
