Apparently the glands that are responsible for spraying when they're unfixed can become clogged with detritus when they become non-functional. This causes sensitivity and possible infection. So if your boy is getting snippy when you touch his sides or back, it's probably a good idea to take him to the vet to have some excess...gunk...squeezed from the glands.
What defines snippy? Joey sometimes crabs at me as if he just doesn't want to be touched, and he is 12 yrs old, so is this something I need to think about at this age? Do the "sides" include the rear legs?

The Harv is about 13 (not actually sure as he moved in with us as an adult stray 12 years ago), and is getting slightly cantankerous as he ages, much like myself. I just started noticing a fairly consistent whining every time we touched his back area, above and beyond his general persnicketiness. And yes, that included his rear haunches. If Joey's not showing any great upset, I wouldn't worry about it too much, but the next time he goes for a checkup you might want to ask the vet to check his glands.

I had a female cat that, sometimes when I would pick her up the wrong way, she would, easilyk express this dark, putrid stuff! Nasty, nasty, nasty. And it was hot (probably body temp, but it seemed hot when I got the surprise).

As i posted above, Rocky acts really strangely when you touch the rear part of his back, near his tail, but we went to the vet Monday, and it turns out he does have a nervous disorder (forgot the name of it) that makes his eyes 'quiver' and makes him hypersensitive to certain things. There's no treatment for it, so I guess we will just have to handle it, unless it progresses to the point that kitty isn't having a good life. However, he vet says it's unlikely it will ever get a whole lot worse than it is, so I guess Rocky will always be kinda "special". I do feel sorry for him when he gets scared and goes rigid though.

You keep telling Rocky he is special and you love him, and he will be with you a long time.

Well its been snowing here for about 90 min. and we got about 2 inches really quickly. Bogie LOVES it like last year. We couldn't get him to come in and stop playing in it. Rosie walked off the porch into the snow in the yard, it was also still falling, she turned around and RAN back to the door. The look on her face was priceless. It was like @#$*# THIS!

Waldo didn't care one way or the other. His attitude was more like: I'll just pee on it.

I cannot forget that one at all Unk. The Zappa song is actually my husbands ringtone on his phone. It's SO embarrassing out in public with him when it goes off. And yes, the part that BLARES out is: "Watch out where the Huskies go, don't you eat that yellow snow". I hang my head in shame.

Bogie is already begging to go out and get in the snow again. STrange dog.

There was a particularly obnoxious, huge crow that came to sit in a tree close to the house in my backyard, and it just kept screaming and screaming. Come to find out that Chloe was sitting in one of the windows, and I'm sure she was the target of the screams. These other big crows kept swooping on the house. They finally gave up and went away. Chloe won!
