You are wise, and that's just what we're settling on. Actually, "Alexander Theodore Lionel" as his first given name still feels like it has a place too. Our kitties are infamous for getting long names

Are you Catholic? The reason I ask is that all of my Catholic friends when I was a kid had like 5 or 6 different names you know like Paul James Gerard John Daniel shmuglump

shmuglump! Ya know, that fits him pretty well too!

Mr. lei was raised Catholic, I was raised non-religiously, and now we have our own brand of spirituality. Obviously it includes long kitty names, though! Along with their "regular" names are often rock stars, actors, and things, including a dessert that each kitty reminds us of. I won't bore you with all of them but they are delicious

    I called my Theodore, 'Teddy'.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.

My Abigail was 'Gail', and wouldn't answer to anything else. She trained me well.

I love that, as well as "Zandy" for Alexander

As an aside, I'm concerned that I might be perceived as selfish in this. I'm certainly not perfect, and I don't want to be defensive, but I would like to share some background on this particular matter.

While Mr. lei and I are definitely both parents of all our babies, some are more "his" and some are more "mine". Little Shmuglump (for now) was adopted, not to replace, but to kinda fill the void of, our dear departed Rainey, who was my baby for ten years before I met Mr. lei. The first time I really felt her spirit return to me was when I carried Little Shmuglump out of the shelter. I felt her smiling down on me, and it brought sweet tears to my eyes.

One of "my" other main babies is Daphne, who has some anxiety disorders, and was by far most comfortable with Rainey. While Shmuglump is now liked by everyone, Daphne has really taken to him. I feel like Rainey guided me to him to give him to Daphne.

And somehow in all this I just keep hearing "Alexander". It's not a power struggle; just a feeling out of what is best.

But until all this is officially resolved, I'm calling him Shmuglump!

My apologies for the long story

Tis true! Shay called them first. The eyes are mine.

Maggie is absolutely gorgeous...in the summer, we shave our cat so that he looks like a little mini lion. He thinks he's so fierce! It's pretty darned cute!

Awww, y'all are great. I'll just keep passing him around for luvins

(And thank you for diverting the focus away from my worrying )

So here's the funny thing. Mr. lei loves the name "Shmuglump". So do I, so does Rainey, and so does the little cuddleball himself. It's probably too early to know if it will stick, but there's something right about it. Gabriel, what have you done?

There is still something about a more regal name for him, though. Perhaps "King Shmuglump" will fit.

    Aloha, everyone
