They've expanded the recall. I posted this in the thread in CE also.
Pet food recall expanded on new finding - Yahoo! News

By ANDREW BRIDGES, Associated Press WriterWed Apr 18, 8:44 AM ET

An industrial chemical that led to a nationwide recall of more than 100 brands of cat and dog foods has been found to contaminate a second pet food ingredient, expanding the recall further.

The chemical, melamine, is believed to have contaminated rice protein concentrate used to make a variety of Natural Balance Pet Foods products for both dogs and cats, the Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday. Previously, the chemical was found to contaminate another ingredient, wheat gluten, used by at least six other pet food and treat manufacturers.

Natural Balance said it was recalling all its Venison and Brown Rice canned and bagged dog foods, its Venison and Brown Rice dog treats and its Venison and Green Pea dry cat food.

The Pacoima, Calif., company said recent laboratory tests showed the products contain melamine. It believes the source of the contaminant was rice protein concentrate, which the company recently added to the dry venison formulas. Natural Balance does not use wheat gluten, which was associated with the previous melamine contamination, it said.

Last month, Menu Foods recalled 60 million cans of dog and cat food after the deaths of 16 pets, mostly cats, that ate its products. The FDA said tests indicated the food was contaminated with melamine, used in making plastics and other industrial processes. Five other companies later recalled pet products also made with wheat gluten tainted by the chemical.

The FDA has since blocked Chinese imports of wheat gluten. An FDA spokeswoman did not immediately return messages left seeking comment.

Unk. I saw a similar article. I posted the link in CE too.

Gosh, you think that they know everything and then poof, there's another article in the news! Geez Louise! I'm sending protective blessings out to everyone's pets, just in case.

OK, you all have to read this! It was in today's Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper: (I hope I did this right.)

    Brother's keeper
Blind kitten depends on his sibling to guide him. Both need a new home, together
    Thursday, April 19, 2007

What does a blind kitten need to navigate the world? For 6-month-old Frenchy, it's his other senses and a little help from his littermate, Scout.
Yup, Scout is a "guide cat."
The tuxedo-styled brothers were rescued from a heavily traveled road in Salem County and brought to the Salem County Humane Society's no-kill shelter in Carneys Point several weeks ago. They were found near their sibling, who had been hit by a car.
The society's volunteers say the kittens are inseparable and are working to have the kittens adopted together. They share an open space with about 30 cats. Frenchy follows his brother around by scooting close to the floor, and Scout never lets his blind sibling out of his sight.
"They've had a tough life from the get-go," said Sarah Miller, the shelter's junior vice president. "After you've been through so much like that together, you just have that bond."
A veterinarian determined the blind kitten is otherwise healthy and has adapted to his disability well, said Heather Speakman, the shelter's president. Frenchy's eyes look normal, but his brain isn't getting its visual messages. He may have been born blind or he could have been injured early in life. He will have to remain indoors for the rest of his life.
Still, he finds his way to the litter box, food and water bowls. Both brothers attack shoelaces, curl around legs and come running for pets.
Shelter volunteers hope to find someone willing to adopt the pair together. Miller says the kittens are sweet, gentle and easy-going.
"I think one would be totally lost without the other," Miller said. "As much as we say that Frenchy needs Scout, I think Scout needs Frenchy just as much."

I'd adopt the little cuties. Two boys and two girls. That would be a house full.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.

ETA Here is a picture. Frenchy on the left, Scout on the right.
Check out Scout's puffed up tail. Protective thing isn't he?

If Joey wasn't so possessive of me, I'd probably cave in and adopt them.

Looks like Scout is going to look doubly big enough for the both of them. Good boy!
