My dog, Jack, has been limping lately. He's almost 12 years old and a mix of chow, lab and german shepherd. Was pretty sure it was arthritis, which the vet confirmed today: lower spine and right hip. Don't want to face his mortality, although he did beat cancer last year. Wish we never had to say goodbye to our pets. Attachment 26898

Me too... There are some good pain meds the Vet can give for the arthritis as well as supplements.

    Dragon Lady, he is beautiful.

Can he do surgery? Is that a possibility? I know of several who've been helped by that.

We gave our elderly Boston Terrier, Sam, glucosamine supplements, and they really seemed to help. I feel for the poor guy. I have some arthritis myself and it's no fun.

yes, the vet gave us some meds for his pain and he's been on the glucosamine tabs for quite awhile now. I give them to the other two dogs also.
Thank you for your kind words. Jack truly is a beautiful dog, even if I do say so myself but he has attitude in abundance! Will always try to be the alpha dog, until he pushes it too far & I have to remind him who the real alpha dog (me) is around here.
He's been so accepting of us adopting other dogs (all rescues) and always welcomes newcomers. We have a hard time saying no to dog in need of a home. We have 3 large ones now and I'm hoping it stays that way for awhile but you never know who'll show up.
I also have my hubby on glucosamine . He's a 10th degree black belt in karate and has been hard on all his joints.

I've been going overboard on kitten toys, but today I got one that will really help me keep up my daughter's exuberant energy level now that she's gone... a laser pointer. My daughter used to run all over the room with a toy the kitten would follow, but I can do all that from my chair. Even the older cat is interested.

Gutmutter, when it warms up, get a plant stand and grow some catnip indoors (on the stand so they don't destroy it, inside so you don't attract flocks of unfixed cats)
Talk about entertaining--the fresh nip is way, way stronger than any in the store and makes the cats super silly. You can cut it back, dry it out, then freeze it to keep it extra zingy also. I got one teeny plant 2 years ago, and have clipped it back repeatedly, and it's doing just great. It is well woth the $1.99 I paid for it.
I have found the Truth and it doesn't make sense.
