Well, we've had a minor miracle occur...my older cat suddenly appears to be adjusting to her new *little brother* just fine. She's still keeping her distance from him, but when they meet up, the kitten backs away from her. Apparently his subservience satisfies her. I've been keeping them in seperate rooms when there's no one home, but I think they're pretty much ready to be left alone together now. Thank gawd, because I have one litter box in our front landing which is just too close to our living area...even though I'm faithfully scooping, I can still smell it. I'm dying to move it in the basement with the other box.

Thanks for all your suggestions, guys!

Ooh, good tip. Thanks! We just adopted a 2-year-old mini dachshund - my first long-term dog in a lifetime of cats. She's got fear issues, and will have to be tranquillized next time we get into fireworks season (New Year's around here). I know how to pill a cat, but dogs are a foreign entity.

She's recovering from spaying/hernia surgery today, as well as having had a rabies shot, very long claws clipped complete with bleeding, a microchip inserted, and receiving intravenous fluids for dehydration. She's pretty miserably sore, and I was wondering how to get a pain killer tomorrow is the vet thinks she needs one.
