I had no idea that dogs could get alzheimer's disease either, learn something new everyday. I'm sorry about your dog's illnesses, Cali Lily and Archiecomicfan.

Thanks I've been thinking a lot today about our 2 (3 with our late Kenzie) dogs. They were all pound dogs who all had different lives and owners before they met us. With Augie especially it is really nice to know that she got the extra 8 years thanks to my loving and wonderful stepmom. Louise just happened to drive past a pound an hour from home one day and randomly went in, not planning on adopting anything. They were walking Augie to the room to euthanize her. Louise stopped them and saved her. If she would have been just 10 or 15 min later Augie would never have been given these extra 8 years. Maybe I'm just a sap for those kind of stories but whenever I think of it I can't help but choke up a little just because she is such a loving and good dog. It makes my heart hurt to know that so many other wonderful animals aren't as lucky as she was.

    Joey HATES science diet
Joey turns his nose up at ANYTHING the Doctor recommended

    Here is his routine:

First thing in the morning (before daddy gets coffee, but after the fresh water is gotten in the bowls and the box is scooped) Joey gets a half of a 3 ounce can of Sardine Shrimp and Crab. (this will also be left out if there is any left.)
Before Daddy goes to work, he puts out the 1/3 of a cup of the dry food mix.

When Daddy gets home, Joey gets a tablespoon of people ALBACORE WHITE tuna. (Daddy gives out fresh water at this time also)

Just before bed (daddys) Joey gets 1/2 of a 3 ounce can of Salmon and Trout or the California Roll and Daddy MUST put the hard food away (this is where I was slipping) and Daddy MUST cut back on the friskies party mix (Beachside crunch)....

    It is all Daddys fault........

When I followed the routine, he had lost about a half pound.

Wow! Monet read this and asked if he could go stay at your house.

It sounds like he's just getting 1/3 of a cup of dry food per day, correct? If that's the case, that is really not very much at all. He's getting about 5 oz. per day of food ( 3 oz. wet & 2 oz. dry ) and for a cat his size, he should be losing weight. Monet gets both dry and wet. Dry is the lite food and the wet is the KD ( for CRF cats ).
Sounds like Daddy may be giving Joey more than he's saying?!!

Daddy WAS NOT putting away the dry stuff at night and looking back I was adding to it in the morning also. BAD DADDY... He is also getting that tablespoon of PEOPLE WHITE ALBACORE SOLID tuna. I don't even eat that, it is a bit more expensive than the regular.

And no one is really sure of how often Joey raids the refrigerator at night after daddy is sound asleep.

Sorry I didn't see your post earlier as we've been busy packing for a big move.
If you've never seen a dog of this size standing on a kitchen table or counter you really can't appreciate how it takes your breath away when you walk in on it.

Gabriel, all of our dogs (and Clara the kitty when she was still with us ) love the Merrick products!

I was just going to say that Joey has a secret Dorito stash. He also sneaks some miller high life every so often. Might want to count the bottles next time there Dad.

Bunny, I bet it does. I'd still like to see it though.

    Re: For animal lovers

Why do you say that? There's quite a few of us that have dogs. I have 3 and I write about them all the time. In the past few days, we've heard from several dog lovers about their pets. Go back and re-read and see for yourself. In fact the only 2 catlovers that have been posting are Prhoshay and Gabriel. I think the rest of the posts are from those of us with dogs. We're equal opportunity here. Everyone supports everyone else, no matter what kind of animal they have.
