Hubby and I decided to take advantage of the sun and go to Balboa Park after breakfast this morning. Then we decided on the spur of the moment to walk over to the Zoo (I have a yearly membership; luckily we both had our cards!). What a fun morning! Now we're going to have grilled portobello mushrooms for lunch and watch the Rose Bowl. Go Badgers!!!

    Ellen,

Do you have a special way you do the grilled portabellos?
I've made them numerous times with oil, salt, pepper and some balsamic, but I've never been able to duplicate the best ones I ever had at a cafe in NoHo.
The latter were tender and meaty tasting. Mine just never seem to measure up.

    Any ideas?
    TIA

Grilled portobellos are yummy. My mom marinates them in italian dressing then wraps them in tinfoil and cooks them for a half hour on the grill.

We don't do anything special -- just brush them with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and grill them on high for three minutes on each side.

    Ok. Thanks.
I'm still trying to duplicate the ones that I got in that restaurant.
