They may very well be cool, so apparently coolness is idiotic. I can almost accept LA for Los Angeles or Vegas for Las Vegas, but that is it. No one here refers to our city as TO, or T-Dot, and I just cringe hearing it elsewhere as much as the residents of San Francisco must cringe at hearing Frisco.
That's mainly because no one in SF uses that phrase. In NorCal, it's "The City." Frisco is what people who don't know better call it. "LA" is totally acceptable (I'm a native southern Californian) and I don't mind "Vegas," but NO ONE who lives there calls Orange County "The O.C." NO ONE.

If I hear "Where you at?" I want to hurt someone.

    Lil Bit,

I've not seen this before, on Facebook or otherwise.
    Can you enlighten me? Thanks

One of my European clients once asked me about going to "the O.C." (train vs. rental car, etc.). I couldn't understand what he was asking for, and then he explained: "You know, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach?" Apparently he was a fan of the TV show. I had to explain to him that NO ONE here calls Orange County "the O.C." LA, yes. PB, OB, IB -- yes. MB, no. SD, no.

If used, it should be preceded by an apostrophe: 'rents, abbreviated form of "parents."

I'm sure I'll think of more along the way.

I have to put more work into shortening "thank you" to "TY" or "You're very welcome" into "YVM". I hate 2 used for to & too, ur for your, r for are, etc. I hate seeing it used, and am glad it's frowned upon here at FORT.

To that end, let's add "text me." I don't text.

"2", "u" and "r" are like nails on a chalkboard for me.

On the other hand, I'd rather someone text me than leave a voicemail. It's gotten better since I got visual voicemail on my blackberry, eliminating the tedious voicemail login, but I still read faster than anyone types, and frequently there's background noise, making it hard to hear the message. And only my immediate family seems to understand the direction in my prerecorded message that the caller should leave a concise message. Most people just ramble.

My mother always used to say to that: "behind the at". Now I find myself mentally saying it when I hear someone say "where are you at?"

I get tired of writing out Greenville, so I abbreviate it Gville, when writing, but I don't say "G" Ville. I know a lot of people here that call it G'vegas and they can't tell me why. As we are nothing like Las Vegas, I have to assume it's tongue in cheek, but it drives me crazy to see or hear that.

And I agree with most of the words and/or phrases you've all included. Including "and/or".
