Very sad day indeed, that day. You wonder what might have been if he had lived (maybe no Watergate and no President Nixon)
Do you know that in July it will be 40 years since the lunar landing?

It makes me really think about how much has happened in our country in the past 50 years. I remember being sad that the Kennedy's lost another son.
A lot of good has happened too in the last 50 years, like the internet.Originally Posted by famita;3486297;
But back to the Kennedy's, I think the Kennedy family has had so much tragedy though, an awful lot for one family to go through.

But it really does make one wonder about the sins of the father being visited on the children. Joe Sr. was a ruthless crook let's face it.Originally Posted by myrosiedog;3486366;
It is indeed a sad anniversary. I believe he could have done a lot as President had he been elected.
Who made his money breaking the law during prohibition. And was determined to have a son in the White House at all costs. At least the kids did ok. Must of been the balancing influence of Rose.Originally Posted by gabriel;3486411;

Not to mention manipulating the stock market using the very tactics that HE and the other members of the new Securities and Exhange Commision outlawed. FDR made a great choice there however. (Why not have the fox design a way to keep other foxes out of the hen house.) I've often wondering if Kennedy and the SEC would have devised such stringent rules had he NOT made his millions by then?Originally Posted by myrosiedog;3486791;
Since he blew his chances by sticking his head in the sand during WWII and saying that Democracy was finished.Originally Posted by myrosiedog;3486791;
I'm sure that might have had something to do with it since she was such a staunch Catholic, but I read somewhere that one of the children said that Rose was very distant and left the work to the nannies.Originally Posted by myrosiedog;3486791;
I also have a hard time with a mother who tells her daughter that she will burn in purgatory (instead of either heaven or hell) simply because she married an Anglican. (Kathleen marries Cavendish in England) I don't remember which book I read that in, but also Rose refused to ever speak to Kathleen again and never did after she decided to marry Cavendish.
Wow maybe we should rename this thread the Kennedy Discussions....
MRD, I know we've had a lot of good things in the past fifty years-You were born!! I guess I was thinking about the Kennedys and their losses.
I've read several books about the Kennedys and Joe Sr was certainly one of a kind. I was always disturbed when reading about Rosemary.
Getting back to Robert, I think we'll always wonder what good might have happened if.
