| Re: Starting College or Going Back Good for you MRD. None of us had any doubts that you'd ace your classes though. I'm glad the creek crossing went so well and that you didn't fall in! ![]()

| Re: Starting College or Going Back MRD, great job! ![]() I got all my grades back and I did alright, I was .9 away from making the Dean's List again. I'm a little bummed, but at least I made the honor roll. I'm hoping that when I look at my exams there is a miscalculation or some error and I might be able to appeal and get a grade increase. It was a crazy semester for me, so overall I'm happy. Plus, I don't have to ever take Secured Transactions, the worst class ever, again. ![]() | |

| Re: Starting College or Going Back Great job Yardgnome. I would try appealling that grade. It's SO close. Good luck. Secured transactions does not sound like fun. I got really overwhelmed after about week 2 because I have a really heavy work load this semester (5 classes, 14 books to read and 12 papers or projects) so I hit a wall thinking I would not make it. And I have a couple teachers that I was worried about their tests and now after taking them, I'm not so worried anymore. But it did get overwhelming. (I haven't been on here much because I just don't have the time). But I got super organized with my calender (tore out the pages, color coded each class with the due dates, etc. and taped them to the wall over my desk. At a glance, I know what's due and when). But geting some grades back really helped me feel better about things. I really love all my classes, but there is a LOT of work, but I knew going in as a history major that it was going to be a LOT of reading and a LOT of writing and a LOT of research. So I can't really complain, unlike this one girl in one of my history classes that switched her major from English to History because there was too much writing in English. And now she's really unhappy because it's even more work. The mean streak in me wanted to tell her to switch to philosophy, but I didn't. ![]()

| Re: Starting College or Going Back I finally got my first paper back in my Comp class and I got an A! This is an ICN class so our assignments have to be mailed in, graded, then mailed back, so it's taken some time to get some results and I was really needing the feedback. I was happy with the paper, but until you get a response, it's easy to let your doubts take over. So, I'm getting A's in all my classes. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? ![]()

| Re: Starting College or Going Back Great news Lil Bit. Yeah, it is so important to get the feedback. About a month into classes, I was getting kind of down and out because of all the work, but once I finally started getting grades back, that really lifted my spirits. I am just inundated this semester. I love my classes, but I am struggling with the amount of work and the fact that I have life outside of class that is totally being ignored at the moment. Can barely cook or do laundry. All 4 of us are in school and working and never home at the same time and when we are, it's usually busy with school work. Right now I'm working on a document analysis and synthesis on Race and Ethnicity between the Wars (world wars) and I had to take a break. I was about to go cross eyed. And I turned in a paper yesterday that I was almost embarrassed to turn in. It was not even close to my best work, but I just did not have the time to devote to it and the other stuff that was due and the exams I've had. That is something that is really bothering me. I want to do my best and right now, I don't have the time to do my very best work and it really irks me.

| Re: Starting College or Going Back I just found out this morning that I'm a selfish person. The kid that sits next to me in my Psych class (he's 20) has been asking if he can borrow my notes. I said yeah and offered them to him, but he always said, "no, I don't need them right now." Well, Tuesday we are having an exam over the last 5 chapters and now he wants my notes. I told him no and he actually said that he needs them NOW because we have an exam next week. I said that I have an exam next week too and that I need my notes to study for it. He had the nerve to tell me that I was being selfish. I just smiled at him and said, "I guess you're on to me," and walked away. (with my notes)

| Re: Starting College or Going Back GOOD FOR YOU!!!! Lil Bit. I am very selfish with my notes. I don't mind sharing if someone is sick and misses class, but now that my classmates see what a good note taker I am, they want copies of my notes even if they are in class and I refuse to share. If you are there, you can take the same notes. And that would tick me off too, if you offered and then they were refused adn then he wants them when you need them. Now I have gone to the library and let someone make a photo copy of them, but I NEVER give my original notes because I'm not sure if I would get them back or not. But there is nothing wrong with being selfish in that situation. He's being a immature jerk. And I loved your response. And congrats again on the A and good luck on the test. You wouldn't want to finish my document analysis and synthesis for me today would you? My head is about to explode. ![]()

| Re: Starting College or Going Back One of my friends on campus was telling me a story about one of her professors. He's apparantly a bit, ah, eccentric, but one kid had missed an entire week of class with no email to the profs (they are all very good about missing classes and if you email them, they will even email back the work you missed. ) Anyway, the kid missed class, has apparantly been a really poor student anyway and he raised his hand to ask a question and the prof said: "Put it down, you missed a week of class with no excuse, you don't have the right to ask a question now". I thought it was great as I've got some people in my classes that ask questions that we either JUST went over, or were in the assigned reading. One on Wed. asked a question about someting that was featured predominantly in the book we had just gotten finished reading and doing a book review on to hand it. If I had been that teacher, I know I would have said: "didn't you just read that and write about it?". I think it's ok to ask questions to clarify stuff, but these are questions don't do that. They ask them about stuff that either the prof just explained or were in the reading. It wastes so much time in class and therefore, we are behind in several classes. I guess it just irks me. I do all the work and do the reading and then I have to sit there while they go over it AGAIN in class when if it was to be discussed in class, it would have been. The reading assignments are homework. OK, off my soapbox now.
