Re: Christmas 2007

Heh. I've never seen WL and my sister can't stand that (it's her fav). Now I make it a point to avoid it just to keep the crazy going. I love White Christmas... "Sisters, sisters, there were never more devoted sisters" (you should here us 3 sisters singing that). And the general and the snow. *tears up thinking about it*

You DO NOT tear up at the ending! I do too. I like the scene where Bing & Danny are doing the Sisters act and Bing is cracking up.

I've been noticing that I've made some glaring typos recently here and in emails. I have a big monitor and haven't had to wear my reading glasses when I'm on the computer, but it appears now, that I am going to have to start wearing them because I apparantly am not seeing what I'm really typing.

Re: Christmas 2007

My decorations are up!!! Well, most of them. The tree isn't up yet, and the lights outside aren't done, but the rest of the house was done. It was great. When I got home from work yesterday, I found that my son had gone into the attic, gotten down all the decorations, and had made a HUGE dent in getting everything up. Of course, the house was a mess and he didn't put on any Christmas music while he was decorating (a HUGE rule in my house), but WOW! What a nice surprise.

That's great. I wish someone around here would do that once in a while. My daughter was stressed for studying for exams, so she only put up lights in her bedroom. (). Her boyfriend, me and my husband put up the rest of the decorations.

Glad to hear you are finished. And yes, Christmas music is a must here too when decorating. Then we usually watch a Christmas story and drink hot chocolate or egg nog when finally finished. I found a great mulling spice that is orange and cinnamon. We had it last night. Tasted great.

Re: Christmas 2007

24 days!!! My facebook is now fully Christmas-fied, but the place I stay while in school, not so much! But I'm wrapping/decorating/writing christmas cards for my cohorts tonight, so that'll get me into the Christmas spirit.

As for Christmas related things, I went to the mall yesterday and found NOTHING that appealed to me. I felt like a grinch because usually I can spend hours at the mall. I ended up at Walmart for the gifts. Oh well! Loved the Christmas music though!!

Re: Christmas 2007

We just got home from the 2 most significant Christmas traditions. My daughter and I went to Walmart and picked out a young girl (9) from the Angel Tree and picked out a full wardrobe - coat, matching scarf/hat/gloves, boots, clogs, pants, skirt, shirts, etc. and a toy. It is our favorite part of the season, knowing that someone will have a better Christmas now. We spent a long time choosing the outfits and having girl/shopping/bonding time. Then we went to pick out our Christmas tree. She saw it the second we walked on the lot and pointed and said, "I want that one!". People around us laughed because we had literally been on the lot for about one second when she said it. We took a cursory walk around and then came back and got it - it is wider than it is tall and looks like an elephant seal out in the driveway. I hope the dog didn't pee on it when he was out. I have to make room for it tomorrow morning. I'm too bushed now to do it. I got home and made the rumball recipe and will roll rumballs for our staff Christmas party tomorrow. It will be on Thursday and they need a few days to "rest".

Re: Christmas 2007

So do most of you have you Christmas decorations up? Wow that is impressive. For some reason I just haven't gotten in the spirit quite yet... I guess now that it is December I better get my act together...

Re: Christmas 2007

Festivus for the Restuvus!!

Holiday Eating Tips

1. Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table knows nothing of the Christmas spirit. In fact, if you see carrots, leave immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum balls.

2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. Like fine single- malt scotch, it's rare. In fact, it's even rarer than single-malt scotch. You can't find it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares that it has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to turn into an eggnog-aholic or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it. Have one for me. Have two. It's later than you think. It's Christmas!

3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of gravy. Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out of your mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.

4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a sports car with an automatic transmission.

5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control your eating. The whole point of going to a Christmas party is to eat other people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello?

6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog.

7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of attention. They're like a beautiful pair of shoes. If you leave them behind, you're never going to see them again.

8. Same for pies. Apple. Pumpkin. Mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or, if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always have three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day?

9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some standards.

10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention.

Reread tips; start over, but hurry, January is just around the corner.

Remember this motto to live by:

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Happy Holidays everyone !

LOVE it. This about sums up my feelings exactly about Christmas and parties.
The only veggies I got today was in the spinach dip.
