Wayner, you've proven the reason my mom used to say that to me.

I was at my aunt's house yesterday, and I showed her this thread, and she was laughing so hard.

My grandmother used to say that she could tell how many lies we told by looking at our fingernails. She said for every lie we told we would have a white spot on our fingernails. I always made sure I wore fingernail polish when I saw her.

When I was growing up, (remember, I am deaf), my parents would tell me "Eat your carrots, or you will be blind!" I was sooo afraid to turn blind so I made sure I ate my carrots. (Sight is the most important thing for deaf person.) 8O)

Mom told me if I asked her for toys at the store I would get thrown into a furnus (i cant spell that lol) like the little spoiled girl on Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Still cant watch that movie to this day.

Also my parents told me if I ate snow outside I would get worms in my butt from dog droppings in the snow....odd huh?

lol this one is great..an old teacher my mom used to work with would tell her middle school girls that they shouldnt do gymnastics or cheerleading jumps b/c they would "flip thier uterus"......explain that one to me please! hehe

I can't explain that one, that's just crazy!

Oh I heard one once that my mom told me that if I never cleaned my closet monsters would start to live in there. Made me wanna never have my door open and clean it.

Oh I know one! My mom told me not to sit too close to the TV because I would go blind from the strain on my eyes.

    How about:

"If you crack/pop your knuckles, they'll get big and stay that way!"

    Oh, please!

I now engage in many happy hours of cracking and popping my knuckles!

MollyRose, my mother had a similar one...except she didn't identify what would actually happen to me if I sat on the concrete. I assumed the ailment was hemorrhoids (or "piles" as she called them??)...but I never wanted to ask her for details. Wish I would have asked her...my post would be way more interesting if I knew what I was talking about
