Yup -- the news story I saw said that the greatest concentration of the vasodialating nutrient is indeed in the rind. (There's some in the flesh, but not significant enough to do anything -- unless you eat a truckload of watermelons.)

I say, hell, sprinkle some lime juice and sugar on it, give it an exotic name, serve it up, and put the asbestos sheets on the bed!

Ellen, here in GA it used to be common for people to make watermelon rind pickles, although I haven't seen any lately. (nor, sadly pickled peaches)
I don't know if they might have helped produece the huge families that used to be common on farms though!
I have found the Truth and it doesn't make sense.

I just saw some pickled peaches in a store up near Chimney Rock, NC.

I'll keep my eye out if you want. I tend to frequent places where they do a lot of canning and selling. (I can't resist those kinds of stores, since I don't can. )

I um, think the last time I cleaned behind the washer and dryer was when I moved.

Well look at it this way MRD, you'll be moving soon. Moving is a good way to get those kinds of things done. I've only got 5 weeks left until school starts up again and have to get the house in order.

I don't think I'm going to be moving anytime soon. With hubby's job situation and the housing crisis/financing/downpayment ,etc., I think we are stuck for at LEAST another year if not more and I HATE this house.

Oh. I must be confusing you with someone else. (sorry) Well I'm stuck here for who knows how long at least until the housing market starts getting better. I don't hate my house, it does have a lot going for it but I have lived here 15 years! and am ready to stop mowing the grass. I want a condo!

Actually, a few months ago we were talking about moving and hoping to move, but that is being pushed back. So it probably was me, but situation has changed now.

    me, me.
I'm moving to a condo in about 4 months. Been living in the same place for 24 years and not looking forward to packing/organizing - actually have a duplex so we have to do both sides.
and fix it it up, and try to rent it. Going to have 2 payments until we get tenants or the market picks up enough to sell.

PS. I have been ready to move for 20 years. we did actaully spend the last 2 years fixing up our side - but other side gets new carpet and paint and needs some structural stuff.

Good luck schmoo2. I hope everything goes smoothly.

DH and I are actually going out today. (I'm sooooo excited) We're going to a casino with my BFF and her DH. I never win in casinos and limit myself to whatever slot machine is cheapest. But DH usually wins at blackjack so lets hope he has a good day. Did I mention I'm excited?
