They are called Ear Candles. A few years back a friend of mine said they worked miracles on the build up inside the ears.

I really hate to rain on your candling parade, but you might want to look into it a little further before you do it. Clinical studies in Canada have shown that candling has no positive effect, and in some cases has caused significant damage including temporary hearing loss and at least one instance of a punctured ear drum. Because it has been shown to do more harm than good, it is illegal to sell the supplies in Canada.

If your hearing is sort of murky, you might find some relief in unclogging your sinuses (very close relationship).

Feel free to ignore me - I went partially deaf three years ago and am just a smidge sensitive about ear damage.

Lol, all opinions are good Rattus and yes, my sinuses are playing a huge role in this situation. That dog-gone tooth is acting up again this week because of the allergy issues. I've been taking decongestants and they help a little but as most of you know, I want immediate gratification!!

I totally agree with Rattus, however I have had positive experiences with the candling. I have read the negatives, but it was after my ears were feeling better, too. I can't imagine shoving one of those candles far enough into my ear to reach the eardrum, but I'm sure it has been known to happen but I can't imagine tolerating that.

With anything, vitamins, holistic medicine, I guess it does depend on whether or not people use them correctly. I suppose if a large number of people damage themselves permanently, it is the right thing to ban something from being used. Sort of like poisons that used to be used for treatment of sickness in the middle ages.

It really doesn't matter how you use them, ear candles are of no use. Quackwatch.com has a very readable article at ear candles Among other things, it points out that the negative air pressure required to pull wax out of the ear would rupture the eardrum

My brother once extolled the virtues of using ear candles. I was skeptical. I had him burn one without putting it in his ear, and (no big surprise) he got the same amount of gunk.

What, I shouldn't be using arsenic to treat my chilblains?

And no rubbing whiskey on a baby's gums when it's teething either!

I remember my mom telling me that our dr. suggested that and also suggested she drink beer to make breast feeding easier. I was born in 1962, times have really changed in regards to those two medical suggestions.

My mother used to go to the bar with her friends and have a few glasses of wine each night and smoke (inside with other smokers) when she was pregnant with me. I blame her for my height disadvantage yup! lol

Was the purpose of the beer to make the boobs bigger or to help her relax and be able to handle it? Trust me, I've dated some women that can down some beer and it is definitely not the first reason.
