Today the high was supposed to be low 40's. But with a wind advisory, so it still only feels like 30's. About the same tomorrow, but Saturday and Sunday? 65 Sat and 67 Sun. Yes!!! I am so thrilled I can't even put it into words. After my hellish month of December with temps in the 20's and 30's, all the snow and ice, and the week without power right before Christmas... I'm looking forward to a nice weekend. And to top it off, it's my "anniversary" weekend, too! (I put that in quotes because we're not married, just the date of our first date was Jan 6th... Okay, quit laughing, and no, I'm not 12!)

The windchill this morning on my way to work was -15 degrees. The high today was 13 degrees. Now it's heading down to a predicted 1 degree tonight, but then getting WARM! - 40 degrees this weekend. Woo hoo! It always amazes me to think that in the winter 40 is warm! but in the summer we were huddled in sweatshirts and blankets on the beach when it got down to 70.
    Count your blessings!

I've spent a totally enjoyable 7 HOURS (need sarcasm smilie) at the airport today taking the 11 year old back. The airline (Allegiant) had 2 flights at the same gate delayed almost 5 hours. There were about 400 hugely disgruntled passengers (and 12 drunks traveling in a group that are NOT going to Florida tonight after one grabbed one of the gate agents and the airport police removed the entire group-at least we had some small form of entertainment while waiting ). We were given complimentary beverages (non-alcoholic) and pizza while waiting FOREVER.

This airport is really small. Total of a dozen gates. One shop, one restuarant and absolutely NOTHING else to do for 7 hours (except drink in the small bar on the concourse where the gates are). There are no tv's to watch, just rows of chairs and that is IT. I now know why they will not let you travel with nail clippers, scissors or pocket knives and it has nothing to do with terrorists or hijackers and everything to do with wanting to slit my own wrists after about 3 hours of waiting and listening to the 11 and most of the adults complain and carry on like idiots.

When they asked me if I was accompanying her to the gate, I should have said no. Just kidding, I would have never left her in that mass of angry people (and the drunks) to wait that long alone.

I wrote a very complimentary letter to Allegiant because their gate staff was incredible. They have no control over flight delays and had to put up with a ton of crap and through it all were cheerful, upbeat, courteous and one went out of his way to search us out and give my little friend some stickers and then joked with her as he could see she was getting upset and apprehensive.

All this while the situation totally deteriorated and the airport police were called in not only to escort the drunks out, but to keep order as the rest of the passengers got unruly. I had taken my charge down a couple gates to sit in a relatively empty area away from the crap that was going on at her gate.

So she is gone, I am home and now have lost 7 hours of my life I'll never get back at the Greenville/Spartanburg airport today.

Wow, mrd, that sounds dreadful. You really deserve all that relaxing time you were planning. Put on some pj's, grab a good (or so bad it's good) book, and snuggle with a four-legged friend.

It was 16 here last night and barely got above freezing today. We have barely seen Henry in the past 48 hours because he has been under the covers on our bed. He only comes out to eat and be dragged outside for short bathroom breaks. It is supposed to warm up over the weekend. I'm not really minding the cold too much because I got new fuzzy flannel penguin pjs from my Mom for Christmas (yes, I am almost 40 and she still gives me pjs every year ) and I've been wearing those, and hanging out on the couch all wrapped up in a blanket and reading my new stack of books.

mrd, do you think you can take a red-eye up here to NW OH and wait for my microwave repairman tomorrow? I haven't posted this saga and it is almost getting too complicated to describe.

Monday, 12/10 - received a recall notice on our Kenmore microwave. It is the top half of a dual microwave/oven wall unit. We called and could either have it repaired for free or get a paltry amount off of a new one. We went for the repair and made an appointment for 12/19, time window of 8am - 5pm!!!!! But we could call in the morning to get an estimate of actual time. We also asked how long the repair would take and they didn't know as they hadn't started doing them yet!!!

Wednesday, 12/19 - called about 9am and Roxanne told me that we were 5th, should be about noonish. Since I knew I was stuck at home all day, I planned on doing some phone calls to clear up some disputed medical bills/insurance issues. My mom was also still in the hospital after her car accident on the 13th and I talked to her several times. Called the repair service about 2 and Roxanne told me we were 6th (????) and the repairman was on the 3rd one. I asked if he would still come after 5, since we were scheduled for that day. Roxanne assured me that he would. I phoned mr. veejer and alerted him to come home by 5 as I needed to be somewhere at 5:30. Just past 5 the phone rang. mr. veejer answered and it was Roxanne telling us that the repairman skipped us because their policy was to call first to make sure the homeowner was home and our line was always busy!!!!! I could hear enough that I took the phone from mr. veejer and blasted her. Now I didn't swear and I didn't quite scream, but I sure raised my voice more than I ever have in my life. The upshot was that we were rescheduled another 9 days later, 12/28, 8am - 5pm. I asked to be first on the list, but Roxanne couldn't do that. I gave her my cell phone number as a backup.

Friday, 12/28 - I didn't bother calling my friend Roxanne because I figured that it was pointless. I stayed off of the phone and got rid of any calls quickly. mr. veejer called me on my cell phone about 2 and said he'd call from work for me. We were 11th at that point and the repairman was on the 8th job. (At least he'd gotten faster in the ensuing 9 days.) mr. veejer was assured that he'd still do it that day. Well someone changed their mind, because at about 3, I got a phone call that the repairman wasn't going to get to us that day and the next available time was another week later, 1/4, 8am - noon, or 1pm - 5pm. I took the morning slot.

I'll let you know if he ever shows.

Wow. I've never had a microwave that busted or known anyone who had to call a microwave repairman. Those Kenmore microwaves must suck! Sorry you're having to deal with so much, veejer, but it's kind of tough to raise a stink when the repair is free Good luck tomorrow!

    Re: FORT Koffee Klatch

I had a Kenmore microwave that lasted me 13 years...it's still working, but we replaced it with a more modern stainless steel one to match all our other new appliances this year...so I gave it to sister so she could have it at her work office...

That said, what kind of stupid rule is it that they repairman won't come if the line is busy? If the line is ALWAYS busy like he said, doesn't that mean that the homeowner most likely is home?

Sorry you're going through this. The next time you talk to your buddy Roxanne, you should ask to speak to her manager and make them give you a gift certifcate or something.

    Veejer and Rosie - WOWZERS!

So sorry your days were entirely crappy

Veejer - is it too late to change your mind about the minor discount off of the new microwave? Maybe your buddy Roxanne can cut you a deal?

Rosie - I have flown Allegiant many, many times to Vegas (their hub) and I can safely tell you that they have only been on time once! There is always a delay on our flight into Vegas - however, not much delay in getting out of Vegas... If I had my choice - it would definitely be the reverse !
