I don't think you have a cold. If I were you, I'd just break down and go to the doctor. With you being diabetic, you need to be more vigilant than most.

I had my tonsils out when I was 5. It was just what you did during the early 50s . . . you had your kids' tonsils and adenoids taken out.

Unfortunately, they didn't get all the tissue, so the darned things grew back! I had them out again when I was 12. Missed the first two weeks of 7th grade, and don't feel like I ever caught up. Grrr. The biggest drawback, though, is that they gave me radiation therapy treatments (rods up my nose, several sessions), which have since been found to create a high risk for thyroid cancer. I have it checked every year . . . so far, so good.

Debb . . . I agree with the others. You need to get yourself to the doctor, STAT.

The times I've thought I just had a bad cold that wouldn't go away, it ended up being bronchitis or my asthma flaring up. I agree with prhoshay that it's time to have a doctor check you out.

Colds, allergies, and flu have parameters. Don't know that it's worth playing guessing games. All coughs are not created equal.

Lord knows, I understand that going to a doctor is a drag, but they are there for a reason.

I appreciate your concern over my health. I discovered that a couple of people at the office have been sick too. Of course, it's difficult to determine if it's a cold or allergies, but similar symptoms.

I called the nurse line with my insurance company for a phone consult. I've used them over the years and they are pretty helpful. She went over a list of questions and based on that, she advised that I continue doing what I'm doing and see the doctor is something changes. For example, no chest pain or tightness, no high fever, and no headaches. I also don't have any congestion in my chest and ribs. The cough is coming from the drip on my throat that causes the sting that sets off the cough reflex. She did recommend that I keep doing lots of liquids. AND she said a netti pot is good idea! I'm just going to feel lousy for awhile.

Ugh, no fun. I have this from April through early June. For me it's allergies. Unfortunately my son got my nose and allergies so he is having a tough time too. Saline rinse for him and Neti-Pot for me really are the best things!

I was always the kid who preferred to be out doing things; I'd get with my friends to do the regular kid things later. It definitely kept me busy! I'd usually be with the boys running, jumping, climbing, biking, falling, skating....all of that kind of stuff. A regular roughneck! It serve me well. My girlfriends were, generally, no where around, unfortunately.
Thanks prhoshay! We actually suggested this run as an activity for her Girl Scout troop a while back and I was really surprised at how many of the girls were not at all interested. I would have LOVED to get messy at that age!!

I have twice had nasty colds that drug out for 2-3 months and both times it turned out to be bronchitis. It eventually passed on its own, but it was no fun! I don't have asthma, but I actually had to get an inhaler when I had bronchitis because the coughing was so severe that it was triggering asthma-like symptoms.
