The bad news: We got ice and snow last night.
The good news: Beginning Sunday the 10-day forecast has all temps in the 50s and 60s!

Sorry Debb just saw this. After the storm went through it was ok. Texas got tornados though. This storm formed about 10 miles west of us and blew up fast. It was so bad it beat all the old pecans hanging in the trees off. Now it is clean up pecans.

Isn't that a good thing? The same thing happened to my mom and she was tickled to get the pecans that couldn't be reached this fall.

Yes it was a good thing. These pecans though are past being good stage but it still helps the trees to get the old ones off. Now to clean up them up out f the yard. I have 5 native pecan trees that have small pecans and most of the time I don't bother to pick them up. I do have one paper shell that is producing good and another one getting ready to.

One of her trees has the small pecans. They are a pain to pick out but are so good to use in baking. You don't have to chop them up like you do the large pecans.
I have several walnut trees in the yard . I know what you mean, they are messy to clean up. They stain your hands and pavement. The squirrels love them and I do too.

I did pick up the larger natives this year and I agree they are the better baking pecan. My paper shell pecans aren't the huge ones and they have a great taste. I ended up with 7 gallons of goodies off it this year. I got 15 quarts off the natives. I have my pecans cracked and the shells blown off and they are so easy to pick out....not many shells left on them.

I actually used mine last year! A deer totaled my car. I pulled over and waited on the trooper and wrecker. I was surprised to learn that it didn't pay the entire amount of the tow. It would cover the tow up to so many miles, then it was a dollar amount each mile over that. I was a little surprised. I paid about $12.00 on the scene. Still, I saved money. My car insurance would have reimbursed me, but I would have to paid for the tow on the spot up front. Without AAA the basic tow was at least $100.00!

We just took AAA back out again. My sister and I are on the road all the time going to soccer games and tournaments and we really needed it in case we were out and had troubles.
