I can't remember the last time I had a rear-wheel drive vehicle. I learned my lesson when I spent a winter in that stupid thing. Never Again!

They can afford the cost of watering to keep things green?

My parents live in the desert southwest and it drives them crazy when they see golf courses being watered in the heat of the day when half of the water evaporates before it hits the ground. Sometimes when places/people have money I guess maybe they just don't think about it...?

That drove us crazy as well!! we can get pretty darned hot( and dry) in the summer..so they now water really early in the morning, and very late at night.

Do any of you actually live in Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Malibu, Brentwood ? I've developed a curiosity about those communities. Maybe it stems from watching the reality shows that are filmed there, but I recall being infatuated by the city of LA even as a kid. I knew that's where they filmed The Partridge Family, Brady Bunch, and where Disney World was located. (THis was before they built Disney World in FL.) lol Plus all kinds of cool things were in LA.

I watched those virtual tours online of the stars homes. They showed the gate that leads to Gene Simmons home, the Play Boy Mansion, and many others. Some are blocked by gates and others are right on the street.

I even looked at the new Sharon Tate house. The old one was torn down and a new mansion sits on the property.

I guess the lush green trees were my biggest surprise, since I thought it was mainly desert. I get it that they have to water.

I'm not sure if anyone is interested or will join me, but I think I'll start a thread on Neighborhoods of the Rich and Famous.

We don't live there, but we have lived in Southern California, and I admit to doing the TMZ Hollywood tour a couple of years ago. We went past the Tate property, and also the Menendez home. We saw George Takei's house and Sylvester Stallone's mother's house.

They spend a lot of money keeping the residential areas well-watered.

Sounds like a fun way to spend 1 afternoon but, otherwise these people and houses hold no interest for me. I already know that these people are just like anybody else....maybe not in THEIR minds, but they really are. They are going to get sick...minor and major....and they are going to die and decompose, just like everybody else, and they, too, will have a foul odor. They have their quirks. They have their issues from their childhoods, too. I could go on and on, but I'll stop here.

AND they put their pants on the same way as I do. The only difference in them and me is money and fame.

And they are not likely to give you any of their money any way! I'm pretty sure you and Shay are not in their wills, either.

I don't think the rich and famous are better than anyone else. I just find the history, topography, social scene, etc. to be interesting. I have a similar interest in England.

There are many things that happened in my childhood in southern CA. I recall doing a term paper on Patty Hearst. (SLA shoot out in LA.) Manson murders, etc. It has always held some mystery for me. Plus, the Beach Boys music scene. Just things I find fascinating about the era and area.

    Re: FORT Koffee Klatch

OK FORT friends. I need your advice and/or experience on this one. My 81 yr. old mother is having a knee replacement. I will be spending my week of Feb. vacation playing nursemaid for her. She will have spent part of a week with my brother before I get there and my sister (who was a nurse) will be taking over for a week after me. So I'll be there a little less than a week after her surgery. What should I expect as far as her ability to move about? She is starting to plan who we can have over for dinner and the list is getting long. I already e-mailed her and said not to invite ANYONE until she has had the meeting with her surgeon about what to expect afterwards. It was supposed to be 2 days ago, but was canceled due to weather - rescheduled to this coming Tuesday. Am I right that she won't be up to entertaining a week afterwards? Or tell me that I'm wrong and I'll tell her to go ahead and invite whomever she wants. HELP!
    Count your blessings!
