We had an interesting thing happen at our middle school assembly for Memorial Day today. At the end when the first half of taps was being played, the young girl couldn't hit one note. The second time she couldn't hit it, she broke down crying. Her dad came out with a toddler on his hip and encouraged her to keep going. She started over and this time hit most of the notes. After the echo played from a different part of the building, the students were asked to stand while the veterans were escorted out. But instead of following the escorts, the veterans all walked over to the far side of the gym to express their gratitude to the girl who didn't give up. I don't think there was a dry eye among our staff.
